DEVOTIONALS

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR PEACE, JOY AND DIRECTION IN YOUR LIFE?

BIBLE PASSAGE:
The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.
(John 1:9)

MEDITATION:
Have you ever noticed how ‘things’ can drastically change in the dark?
Your toe can often remind you of the difficulties of the dark when it has
a close encounter of the worst kind with a chair leg or some other object.
You start to hop around on one foot, but then you stop because you are
afraid of injuring a toe on your other foot.

When it’s completely dark, we can appreciate the need for light, can’t we?
The world is stumbling in darkness from one crisis to another. The crises
are getting worse and are happening closer to home. Inflation, population
explosion, crime, and hunger dominate vast areas of the world.

Just as we need some light for navigating the darkness, the world also is
in desperate need of light. Not the kind of light that comes from the sun
or moon, but the kind of light that shines righteousness into the darkness
of sin sweeping the world.

Jesus said,
“I am the light of the world”

If we follow Him and give our life to Him, He will be our guiding light
in this dark world of sin and confusion. The darkness can create worry
and fear, but Jesus promises to give us peace and joy. That’s what light
does – it provides relief from the darkness.

ACTION:
Question to consider:
    – Do I feel like I am in a world of darkness, groping around
trying to find direction for my life? The world is not going
to light your path, but Jesus will!
“God’s Word is a lamp for your feet,
             a light for your path”
             (Psalm 119:105)

Jesus can make sense out of senselessness.
Jesus can bring stability to instability.
Jesus can bring clarity to confusion.
Jesus can bring cleanliness into a life that is in a mess.
Jesus can bring direction to anyone who is wandering.
Jesus can bring righteousness to sinfulness.
Jesus can bring freedom to anyone who is a prisoner of sin.
Jesus can bring peace to turmoil
Jesus can bring joy to sadness.

The light of Jesus will clear the darkness of sin from the lives of
everyone. His light shines into the darkest recesses of our lives
(that hidden part where sin is thriving and we are allowing it to
remain there).

Jesus knows that sin should not be a part of our lives and if we
allow Him (by praying and asking Him), His light will force that
cancerous sin out of our lives. Why do we call it a “cancerous sin”?
We use that name because if sin is left alone, it will continue to grow
and damage us (and others) in all kinds of ways.

It is no surprise that Jesus said, “I am the light of the world”.
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said,
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me
will never walk in darkness but will have the light
      of life.”
      (John 8:12)

Jesus tells us that when His light is in us, we will carry His
light (which means we will never walk in darkness and we
will have a positive influence on others). That is what Jesus
wants of all believers – to carry His light.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for the light You brought
into a dark world. I need Your light in my life, because
Your light shines in the darkest places and gives me hope!
Thank You for how much You have brightened my life and
shown me my real purpose for living; the purpose and plans
You had for me before I was born. I want to see others
rescued from living in the darkness of sin and missing
out on the blessings of living in Your light. Teach me to
how to carry Your light to others using the special spiritual
gift You gave me when You blessed me with salvation (the
time when You rescued me from the darkness of sin that
was trying to control my life).”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 120 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
