DEVOTIONALS

WHAT ARE YOUR PRIMARY GOALS AND ARE THEY AT RISK?

SCRIPTURE:
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well.
(Matthew 6:33)

MEDITATION:
Many people pour their time, energy and efforts into attaining things
like a good job, a nice home, athletic superiority, etc.
There is nothing wrong with setting goals like these and others,
but there is always the risk of major disappointment.

First of all, there is the heartbreak of dedicating everything to achieve
your goals, but falling short of attaining them.
Secondly, there is the devastating anguish
when these goals are achieved, but lost later.

Companies can go out of business or downsize and a great job can be lost.
Loss of a job can result in the inability to make house notes,
which forces one to lose the house they worked so hard to get.
A person’s health can suddenly deteriorate not only causing one to lose their
competitive edge, but sometimes they struggle just to do normal activities.

In these tragic moments, a person recognizes
how terribly and completely alone they are.
The good news is,
it is at this point that a person realizes that God is the only source of real
power, and the only enduring One who provides love and companionship.

This is the reason we are told to “seek His kingdom and His righteousness”.
When those are our goals, we do not face the risk of losing them.
Not only that,
but we are promised additional blessings as a result of our efforts.
Some of those blessings may be the things that we set as goals for ourselves.
However, whenever our desires are in the right order,
we are equipped to handle the loss of our personal secondary goals.

ACTION:
Don't be guilty of allowing the world to deceive you
and cause you to pursue secondary goals as your primary goals.
Believe the Bible and make your primary pursuits
the ones that the Lord says are most important.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing to me another one of
Your great promises. Make me aware if my priorities are out of order
and teach me how to reorder them. I realize that seeking You and
Your righteousness needs to be the top priority in my life. Forgive
me for putting anything ahead of You. In a world that is unstable,
I recognize that the only stability I can find is in You. Thank You
again for a wonderful promise!”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
