WHY AM I HAVING SINFUL THOUGHTS?

BIBLE PASSAGE:
I do not understand what I do. For what
I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.
(Romans 7:15)

MEDITATION:
As a Christian, do you have times when sinful thoughts suddenly cross
your mind unexpectedly? Why in the world does that happen and where
did these thoughts come from? It could be that they are traveling a path
to our mind that we opened up during times of sin in the past.

So, what action should we take?

First of all, we need to escort those thoughts and images out of our
mind immediately before we started embellishing them. If we allow
them to ‘hang around’, we will most likely ‘relive’ them mentally,
and possibly physically.

Secondly, and more importantly, we need to ask the Lord to remove
that old sinful path, and create a new path that will allow purity and
righteousness to enter our minds. It may sound simple, but it requires
a sincere desire and commitment for us to ask God to ‘shut down’ the
venue for sins of the past.

If we are honest with ourselves, we might secretly enjoy, and even
entertain the idea of having these sinful thoughts reappearing at
times. However, we know the damage they can cause and the guilt
we can feel when we ‘hold on’ to them.

Can God remove the old path to our mind and create a new one?
He is God, so yes He can, but we have to be sincere when we ask
Him to intervene, and especially when it is something that we
know can overpower us.

ACTION:
If you are having these kinds of sinful thoughts ‘popping up’ in
your mind ‘out of the blue’, why not take time right now and ask
God to shut down the old path and open up a new one so you can
grow closer to Him and spend less time coping with the return of
these tempting thoughts and images?
NOTE:
Always remember to thank Him when He answers your prayers.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, forgive me of the sins of my past and
create a greater desire in me to grow closer to You. You
know the sinful thoughts in the past which keep tempting
me today. I pray that You would remove the old path to
my mind that carries these sinful thoughts and images,
and create a new path for my mind to receive righteous
and pure thoughts as You transform me into the person
You want me to be. Thank You for loving me so much
that You want what is best for me, and You continue to
sanctify me so that I will become more righteous and a
little more like Jesus.”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
