ENCOURAGEMENT-07 (Psalm 119:72-81)

LOOKING FOR A FRIEND WHO CAN CALM AND ENCOURAGE YOU?

BIBLE PASSAGE:
The law from your mouth is more precious to
me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold.
(Psalm 119:72)

MEDITATION:
Does life seem to be chaotic at times? Do you ever feel like you
desperately need ‘an anchor of peace, tranquility and solidity’?
We all need a ‘thread of comfort’ running through our life,
don’t we? We need something, or someone that we can turn
to and rely on, whenever our life is disrupted in any way.

If we believe that God is real and the Bible is truth, then we have
that ‘anchor’ and ‘thread’ available at our fingertips. The psalmist
gives us some valuable information to help us when we feel a need
to find some level of calmness and encouragement in our life.

He acknowledges that he was created by God, and consequently,
he knows that the One who knows him best, is the One who can
meet all of his needs.
“Your hands made me and formed me;”
    (Psalm 119:73a)

He acknowledges the presence and power of God.
    “May those who fear you”
    (Psalm 119:74a)

He understands the importance and fairness
of the laws established by God for mankind.
“I know, LORD, that your laws are righteous,”
    (Psalm 119:75a)
Imagine how different our world
would be if everyone obeyed God’s laws.

He appreciates God’s forever and unchanging love for him.
“May your unfailing love be my comfort”
    (Psalm 119:76a)

He knows how he can call on God’s compassion
to provide the calmness he needs to deal with life’s problems.
“Let your compassion come to me”
    (Psalm 119:77a)

He has a desire to learn more about God’s commands
and to better understand how they impact his life.
“…give me understanding to learn your commands.”
    (Psalm 119:73b)

He relies on the promises from God’s Word.
“…for I have put my hope in your word.”
    (Psalm 119:74b)

He accepts the fact that God will sometimes affect his life
in a way that may seem negative at the time, but realizes
anything from God is for his benefit.
“…and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me”.
    (Psalm 119:75b)

He is grateful for the promises of God
that affect him specifically and personally.
“…according to your promise to your servant.”
    (Psalm 119:76b)

He has learned to appreciate the benefits of God’s commands.
“…for your law is my delight.”
    (Psalm 119:77b)

He has a desire to fully commit to following the Lord.
“May I wholeheartedly follow your decrees,”
    (Psalm 80a)

His strongest desire is for the salvation that only God can provide.
“My soul faints with longing for your salvation”
    (Psalm 81a)

He knew where to find hope in all things.
“…but I have put my hope in your word.”
    (Psalm 81b)

ACTION:
Rather than floundering around and trying to deal with things
in our own strength, we need to learn from the Psalmist and
increase our relationship with the Lord.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for the promises in Your Word.
I pray that You will help me to strengthen my relationship with
You, as I diminish my relationship with the world. Thank You
for always being available to calm and encourage me! You
know my innermost thoughts, concerns, and needs, and You
can comfort and encourage me better than anyone else.
Thank You for Your blessings, and for how You watch over
me every day! I am thankful that You are my loving Father!”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
