TROUBLES – DEVASTATING, OR A TIME OF GROWTH?

BIBLE PASSAGE:
“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”
(Psalm 42:5)

MEDITATION:
Here’s a thought to have during the storms of life:
“I am growing through God’s plan for me.”
What is His plan for you?
He wants to enlarge you, not indulge you.

God is more interested in making you holy
and righteous than He is about anything else.
Sometimes God will allow troubles to make you more like Christ.
For those who love Him, He can
make something good out of something seemingly bad.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love
him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

Think about the times when you have spiritually grown the most.
Isn’t it when you had troubles in your life?
When we face insurmountable problems that we can’t handle,
we often call on the Lord with a desire to be closer to Him.

When the troubles are behind us, too often we revert back to
the attitudes and habits we had prior to our stormy times.
Instead, it should be a time of reflecting on the Lord’s availability
and help, which should make us want to grow more holy and righteous.
Some grow the most during times of deepest despair.

ACTION:
Can you look at the troubles in your life,
not as adversities, but as opportunities?
Pause and take a second look at your issues to get a godly perspective of them.
Focus on how you can become more righteous through hardships.
Dwelling on the negatives drains us, but having a positive outlook,
even in times of despair, will lift our spirits because we know God is involved.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for always being there in my times of
despair. Help me to appreciate how You can use difficult times to help
me grow spiritually. Forgive me for allowing problems to devastate me
instead of remembering how You can strengthen my spirit and increase
the light of my world whenever things create a darkness around me. I
want to abound in holiness and righteousness so that I can grow spiritually
and not only be more pleasing to You, but will become usable by You.”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.

  1. Perfect for this period in my personal life. I pray that I will take this break to be grateful for the break in what was wrong and hold to this new way I’m walking will become habit that I stick to and not revert back to my old ways.
