BIBLE PASSAGE:
“God has delivered me from going down to the pit,
and I shall live to enjoy the light of life.”
(Job 33:28)
MEDITATION:
On the night of Jesus’ arrest, Peter denied Jesus…three times!
In spite of his lack of loyalty, after His resurrection, Jesus
assured Peter of his rightful place with the other disciples.
When Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James
found the empty tomb, an angel told them,
“But go, tell his disciples and Peter, He is going ahead of you into
Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.” (Mark 16:7)
Notice how Peter was specifically mentioned.
Can you imagine what was going through Peter’s mind?
Guilt and gladness, fear and fascination,
wonder and worship…a kaleidoscope of emotions!
Since he had deserted the Lord just days before, he must have been
surprised (and relieved) to discover that he was being included with the disciples.
He denied, but Jesus restored!
The depth of Jesus’ covenant love is not exhausted when we sin.
There is forgiveness and restoration, because Jesus chooses to restore.
ACTION:
Have you denied Jesus lately in favor of your selfish pleasures?
When we choose to sin, we are denying the Lord.
Peter felt remorse and guilt over his denial of Jesus…do you?
If so, then don’t you think it’s time for your restoration?
Restoration doesn’t mean continuing as we were, it means
making changes (sometimes radical changes) in our lives and modus operandi.
Remember, He restores us so that we can fellowship with, and serve Him.
Look at the new commitment Peter made after his restoration!
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for Your forgiveness whenever I fail in
my efforts to obey Your commands. Help me to realize that all is not
lost whenever I fail, because I can be restored. When You forgive and
restore me, help me to make a new commitment to obey and serve You
as a show of my appreciation for Your pardon. Thank You for Jesus,
who has shown me what forgiveness and restoration looks like.”
