BIBLE PASSAGE:
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have
taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is
behind and straining toward what is ahead.”
(Philippians 3:13)
MEDITATION:
Nehemiah was a man who knew how to get alone with God.
He fasted, prayed, and wept; then God told him what to do.
Have you done that?
Have you sacrificed and surrendered to the Lord
and discovered His will for your life?
Or, are you just putting yourself into neutral and letting life happen to you?
Do you have a focus?
You are special to God, and He has something He wants you to do.
Jesus tells us plainly that we are the ‘light of the world’.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it
on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way,
let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and
glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)
Nehemiah said:
“I went to Jerusalem, and after staying there three days I set out during the
night with a few others. I had not told anyone what my God had put in my
heart to do for Jerusalem. There were no mounts with me except the one
I was riding on.” (Nehemiah 2:11-12)
ACTION:
If you’ll listen, God will ‘put something in your heart to do’ too.
Get alone with God this week.
Discover what He wants from your own life – to fulfill His Will.
You will never regret serving Him.
Through trials, Job developed a new understanding and relationship with God.
My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. (Job 42:5)
Job knew about God,
but the troubles in his life gave him the opportunity to really know God.
When we follow God’s plan for our lives, we have the opportunity to know God.
Maybe you are already serving the Lord,
but there are additional areas where He wants you to serve Him.
Or perhaps you have never committed to serving Him and, as a result,
you have not experienced the joy and closeness associated with serving Him.
The scriptures tell us of the good we can expect from God.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who
love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)
This is His promise for those who love Him, and we can show our love for Him
when we answer His call for us to be a part of His purpose.
Pause for a moment and think about which choice
has your best interest in mind – your will, or God’s Will.
For starters, pick one area where you have failed to obey Him, and commit
to obeying Him going forward (choose one that is not so easy for you to do).
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for Your plans for me. Help me to
discover what You want me to do and to passionately pursue it
while trusting Your provisions and guidance. I look forward to
the joy of serving You.”
