DEADLINES: A CURSE OR A BLESSING?

BIBLE PASSAGE:
“What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’”
(Mark 13:37)

MEDITATION:
A lot of people hate deadlines; deadlines are either bad or good.
They can cause us to panic, or they can help us to plan.
At the beginning of a semester, students are given a variety of deadlines.
Some students plan well, budget their time, and meet the deadlines.

But, there are some who wait until the last minute
because they say, “I work better under pressure”.
They ignore the deadlines until panic sets in.
Then they do their work under pressure, but not necessarily better.

How would a student handle it if an assignment were given without a due date?
They would have to complete their work
and wait for the professor to call for the assignment.
Everyone would have to be constantly prepared.

Professors do not typically give assignments
without specific due dates, but Jesus did.
Why would He do that?
Probably because He knows that if we are prepared daily,
we can enjoy a life that is blissful and peaceful while we wait for Him.
We can experience a bit of heaven while we live awaiting His return.

Why do some refuse to exercise self-discipline and obedience?
Because the world makes every effort to lure us away
from what we know is right, especially if we are believers.
He gave each person His work to do; for how long? …until He comes.

Instead of a specific time, He said that it could be anytime.
“Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the
house will come back — whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when
the rooster crows, or at dawn.” (Mark 13:35)
His gave us a one-word instruction to…“Watch!” (Mark 13:37)

ACTION:
If you knew His deadline were today, would you be prepared, or would you panic?
If you knew it would be in two weeks, what changes would you make?
It could be today or in two weeks.
Do you believe that? Are you prepared?

Ask the Lord to help you to change from a “watchless” to a “watchful” believer.
If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. (Mark 13:36)
Make a conscious effort to alter your life
and live as though you believe Jesus could return in two weeks (or less).

Change all of those plans scheduled for “one of these days” to “today”.
If daily prayer, daily bible reading, and weekly church attendance
are not a part of your life, then isn’t it time to change?

Remember the old adage,
“If you were on trial for being a believer,
would there be enough evidence to convict you?”

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, help me to watch today and every day so I will
be ready and watching when Jesus comes. Reveal to me the areas
of my life that need to change. Help me to understand how You
want me to serve You, and to effectively use the spiritual gifts You
have given me. Thank You for trusting me to be a part of Your
earthly ministry.”

Prayer request for my wife:

She has been fighting cancer for several years,
and a recent biopsy found another spot in the lung area.
Doctors will be meeting to discuss a plan of action.
Pray for the Lord to guide them in their decisions,
and for His healing hand.
Thank you very much!

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
