BIBLE PASSAGE:
“Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!”
(Romans 11:33)
MEDITATION:
We have to guard ourselves against lowering the standard of God’s Word
to our level of understanding, or political correctness,
or tolerance, or preference.
And we need to guard ourselves against
raising our standard of beliefs above the standard of His Word.
The Bible should not be paraded past the judgment view of our minds.
We can argue with it, but why would we?
We can pick up and read any other book,
but this is the book that reads us.
It pulsates with life and power.
It gives us everything we need to enjoy life now,
and to develop a faith and hope for eternity.
His Word has a life of its own; it is the voice of God to us.
We cannot refuse it, deny it, distort it, or dilute it;
we can only bow before it.
Well known writer C.S. Lewis (writer of The Chronicles of Narnia),
began a concentrated effort to prove that God does not exist.
However, in the midst of his efforts, God spoke to him through the Bible
and Lewis became a Christian dedicated to promoting the existence of God!
Look at the change in this person’s life:
At age seventeen, C. S. Lewis explained bluntly
to a Christian friend he’d known since childhood,
“I believe in no religion. There is absolutely no proof for any of them,
and from a philosophical standpoint Christianity is not even the best.”
Fifteen years later, he would write to the same friend on a very different note:
“Christianity is God expressing Himself through what we call ‘real things,’
. . . namely the actual incarnation, crucifixion, and resurrection.”
He could not have changed without
the influence of the Spirit of God impacting him as he read the scriptures.
With the influences of the world on his thoughts at the age of seventeen,
Lewis had to overcome some major obstacles regarding the existence of God.
However, God’s Spirit can overcome any attempts to corrupt the minds of men.
The worldviews he considered and the issues he grappled with
are still very much with us today.
But we are blessed with the knowledge that God is also still with us today.
He does exist, and we can hear His voice when we read the scriptures.
ACTION POINT:
God's Word is for your benefit, so read it often
and meditate on what it is saying specifically to you.
If you will allow it to, it can show you your own weaknesses.
It also provides a solution for every failure that haunts you.
The Bible gives us the assurance that when we feel weak, we can become strong.
The chains that bind our arms from reaching out to God,
can be broken when we allow His standards to permeate our lives.
When you read it, ask yourself if the section you are reading
is pointing to a specific area of our life that needs adjusting.
And, don't make excuses or rationalize why you are doing the things you do.
Instead, be thankful to God that the scriptures
have identified faults in your life that need correcting,
and ask the Holy Spirit to help you in your efforts to change.
Doing nothing will not result in your becoming a new person, as God intended.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us Your Word to guide us in
being the people You want us to be. Help me to read the Bible with a
sensitivity that You are speaking directly to me. Show me my weaknesses
and my areas of failure, so I can allow the Holy Spirit to help me change
and become more pleasing to You.”

About Don Woodruff
Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
Amen!
