DEVOTIONALS

DO YOU EVER FEEL YOUR LIFE ISN’T VERY IMPORTANT? IT CAN BE!

SCRIPTURE:
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not
from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can
boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good
works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
(Ephesians 2:8-10)

MEDITATION:
Oswald Chambers, author of “My Utmost For His Highest”, died in 1917.
However, his influence lives on.
God still uses this man’s book to speak to many hearts and to convict.
Chambers’ message has lasted because he gave priority
to things of eternal value, rather than to things of the world.

Sadly, many people choose an existence with no enduring significance.
They have goals to make as much money as possible, please themselves,
and retire to “enjoy the good life”.
Although they sound good, none of these goals are biblical.

Worthwhile living involves giving ourselves unreservedly to God
so He can use us in any way He sees fit.
Christians like Chambers, who make a lasting impact
in their sphere of influence, understand God’s desires for them
and have a passion to serve the Lord.
They look for ways to express their love and devotion to Him.

Believers are citizens of a heavenly kingdom,
so being a “Servant of Almighty God” is part of their identity.
We may be thinking: “I have a secular job” or “My life doesn’t matter much”.
However, when we are determined and have a passion to find ways
to be useful for the kingdom, God will provide tasks of eternal value.

We need to be sensitive to people in need.
We need to share our faith with those who hurt.
Whether through our vocation or in our community,
we need to make ourselves available to individuals who need help.
We need to tell others what God is doing in our life.

We are called to serve God where we are.
We have all been given the work of evangelists and teachers
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
(Matthew 28:19)
...as well as the task of caring for those who are in need;
Carry each other’s burdens,
and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2)

ACTION:
Have you made yourself available to the One who has saved you?
You need to have a passion for serving God,
develop a sensitivity for the lost,
and get busy doing whatever He wants of you; there is much work to be done.

Doing something worthy is fuel for your self-esteem.
Not only will serving the Lord provide you with a self-gratification
that cannot be found anywhere else, but you will leave a legacy
to be proud of and like Chambers, your impact on others can live on.
It might not be through a book,
but it could be through those you have impacted.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, forgive me for being selfish about all You have provided
me, and especially Your promise that I can spend eternity with You. Develop
in me a passion for the lost and a willingness to do whatever You ask of me
in order to point them to Your Son, Jesus.”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
