BIBLE PASSAGE:
“On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood
and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to
Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture
has said, out of His heart will flow rivers of living water’”
(John 7:37-38)
MEDITATION:
There are three key points in this scripture in John 7.
First, we must realize we have a need.
Christ says, if anyone thirsts, then come.
Second, He made a commitment to us that there
is water in His house for those who are thirsty.
Third, He says not just water is available,
but a river that will flow from His heart.
The choice is ours.
We can have only a sip, or we can consume the freshness of the
power of God with a never-ending flow of His Spirit from His
throne into our hearts. We need this flow in order to minister
to our needs and the needs of those around us. Why would we
want anything less than the flood of His Spirit?
As with all of God’s principles, we have a responsibility to seek
Him first, and then die to self. When we do that, we are in position
to have His floodgates opened for us. We have the opportunity to
be flooded with the flow of the Spirit of God.
When we view the Spirit flow as a river, we have a choice to
receive it, or we can sit on the bank and die of thirst, even
though a river of plenty is within our reach. In order to
experience His river of plenty, we must choose to move
from our idle, stagnant position and become active for Him.
If we don’t make an effort to move, it is like having the Word
of God in our hands, but not allowing the Spirit of God to
activate it for our use. The Bible is only words until the Spirit
of God makes them alive and fresh in our lives.
God has a stream that brings life to all who find it. There must
be a hunger and thirst for the fullness of God, and a desire to
experience the Spirit overflowing into our lives. It is all up to
each individual to make the right choice.
ACTION:
Are you in the river and receiving the flow of the Spirit of God,
or are you sitting on the bank watching the Spirit flow away
from you?
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, as a child of Yours, I want to feel
Your Spirit flowing through me. I know that I cannot
be active for You in my own strength. Your Spirit fills
me with all that I need for being an active servant for
You. My desire when I see You face to face is to hear
You say, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant’. Help
me to make a fresh commitment today to allow Your
Spirit to wash away all that prevents the Spirit from
flooding my being”.
