SCRIPTURE:
So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or
‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your
heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and
his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
(Matthew 6:31-33)
MEDITATION:
What is the priority of your life—the one thing
around which everything else revolves?
Jesus tells us that God’s kingdom and righteousness
are to be our highest priority.
This type of lofty goal will never be achieved
by being passive and uninvolved.
It demands an active, diligent, and continuous effort.
“seek” means to be active and aggressive in our quest to achieve a goal.
This is not an objective that is settled once and for all in life;
it has to be pursued moment by moment very day.
The world we live in has two opposing realms which
are in constant conflict – the kingdom of Satan and the kingdom of God.
We are caught in the middle of this tug-of-war between two opposing powers.
It is a struggle that will continue throughout our lives
and the only protection we have against the Devil
is the authority of the King of Kings.
Seeking the Father’s kingdom means
we strive to submit to His rule in every area of our lives.
Obedience is the key; every decision must be subjected to His Will.
Seeking God’s righteousness means
submitting to His process of transforming us into an image similar to Jesus.
Part of this procedure includes renewing our mind with Scripture.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what
God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2)
The Word of God washes away worldly thinking
and replaces it with the viewpoint and instructions of our Heavenly Father.
As we yield to His promptings, we will begin to sense His presence.
As a result, we will discover the most satisfying relationship possible.
ACTION:
Stop and take some time to evaluate your priorities.
Who, or what dominates your thoughts and affections?
Where do you invest your time and money?
What is your process for making a decision?
Making Christ top priority requires you to surrender your time
and submit your will—but the rewards
far outweigh any sacrifice of selfishness.
Do you set aside a time every day for reading the Bible?
You cannot expect to ‘renew your mind’ if you fail in this important area.
Do not allow Satan to convince you that you need to remain unchanged.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, I cannot fight off the attack from Satan in my own
strength. You know how he strives to exercise his power over me. Father,
I need You in order to resist these temptations. I pray that You would
renew my mind so that I will focus more on You. I long for a close
relationship with You so that I can experience a peace and joy like I have
never felt before. Father, You are the one I love and the One I want to
live close to. Forgive me of my failures and encourage me as I seek Your
kingdom and righteousness.”
About Don Woodruff
Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
