BIBLE PASSAGE:
That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,”
and believe in your heart that God raised him from
the dead, you will be saved.
(Romans 10:9)
MEDITATION:
We can have many thoughts that are never verbalized, can’t we?
Sometimes we exercise wisdom and know it’s better not to say
what we are thinking. But there are those times when we fail to
filter our thoughts and others can hear us saying them out loud.
This can sometimes embarrass us and possibly cause friction with
others.
However, we should never keep to ourselves our faith in Jesus as our
Lord and Savior. Just saying that He is our Lord is not enough, we
need to believe it in our heart. Anyone can say, “Jesus is Lord”, but
if we fail to believe He was resurrected, and our claim has not caused
us to change our lives, then we are just saying words, aren’t we? We
need to do more than verbalize some historical facts; we need to be
committed to following Jesus.
We cannot believe something into existence. The Gospel did not come
into being because some people believed it. The tomb was not emptied
of the body of Jesus because some faithful people believed it. These facts
preceded the faith.
Believing means having an object of faith. The object of the Christian
faith is Jesus Christ. Faith is more than an intellectual acknowledgement
of the claims of Jesus. Some who have no real relationship with Christ
can say things to convince others (and perhaps themselves) that they are
saved. But if we have not made Him Lord of our life, then we are still lost.
We see comments on social media tell us if we don’t click ‘like’ for a
posting, or share it with others, then Jesus isn’t our Lord and we are
not saved. But a relationship with Jesus is not, and will never become
dependent on our actions on social media.
We should never be ashamed about our relationship with the Lord and
we should be willing to share our faith with others, but social media is
not a way of confirming our belief and faith is genuine. Even though it
might give us a good feeling, we should never try to cause others to feel
that if they do or don’t do something, then they aren’t members of the
family of God; God is the only one who determines the validity of our
faith and relationship with Him; it is not determined by social media.
We don’t know Jesus through the five physical senses, but we know Him
through the sixth sense God has given to every human being, which is the
ability to believe. Faith includes surrender and commitment to God’s Son,
Jesus Christ. These two things will be shown by what our lives express.
ACTION:
Question to consider
– Do I have a genuine relationship with the Lord,
or do I only ‘talk like a believer’, but have not
surrendered my life to Him?
We shouldn’t allow Satan to convince us that if we say something
enough times, or if we say it loud enough, then what we say is true.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for the promise of Your salvation
for me. If I have failed to become a child of Yours, then convict
my heart of what I need to do. Forgive me if I have been claiming
to be saved but have never surrendered my life to You. If I’m truly
a child of Yours, then teach me to be bold in sharing my faith with
others and for my faith to be shown in the way I live. I know that
when I keep my eyes on You, my faith will not waiver. Show me
how to contribute to Your ministry and encourage me to joyfully
return to You a portion of all You have given me. Give me a heart
of gratitude for Your blessings.”
