BIBLE PASSAGE:
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men
loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.
(John 3:19)
MEDITATION:
When do most violent crimes happen? Although daytime crimes are
increasing, still most crimes occur in the night. Why? Because it’s
dark and evilness loves the darkness. Darkness can be equated to
evilness in many ways.
Those who love the darkness are bent toward evil with little or no
interest in the Lord.
“The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has not overcome it.”
(John 1:5)
Since things that used to happen under the cover of darkness are
happening more frequently during the daylight, it might cause us
start thinking that darkness has found a way to overcome the light.
But the scriptures are referring to the “Light of the world”, which is,
Jesus. His light is always shining and will never be overtaken by any
darkness. However, some folks are refusing to allow His light to enter
their hearts. Jesus is being rejected by an overwhelming majority of
people today, and we can tell by the increase of evilness we see.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate
and evilness cannot drive out hate and evilness, only love can do
that. When we read about God creating the world, He said,
“Let there be light”.
God knows the value of light for all mankind. We also know the
importance of light, because it is equated to Jesus.
Unfortunately, some are continuing to live in spiritual darkness, which
causes them to be confused, frustrated, disturbed, and fearful. It can
create a lifestyle of moving from one crisis to another one in a state of
hopelessness. They are stumbling blindly in spiritual darkness which
is leading them toward destruction, judgment and hell.
In sports some say that we should never change a winning strategy,
but we should always change a losing one. This holds true for living
our lives as well. If we are experiencing the things associated with
darkness, then it’s time for us to make a change.
God can make the light penetrate our lives, and turn the darkness of life
into daylight. However, just as we flip a switch to turn on the light in our
homes, we must make a choice to allow the light of the Lord to shine into
our lives.
ACTION:
Questions to consider:
– Is the light of the Lord shining in my heart and life?
– Is God’s light waiting for me to invite it in?
We shouldn’t have a desire to continue wandering around through
life in a confusing and frustrating darkness; we need to invite the
light of the Lord into our heart and life. And when we do, we will
begin to enjoy the things He enjoys and have disdain for the things
that offend Him.
We should never forget that Satan wants to continually disrupt our
lives and cause us to be in denial about our lack of fellowship with
the Lord. Why? Because he hates us.
Conversely, the Lord wants what is best for us. Why? Because He
loves us more than we could ever imagine; He proved it when He
gave His life for us! That’s something we could never expect from
a hate-filled Satan.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of the light
which is Your Son, Jesus. You know the dark areas
that exist in my life. Fill those dark areas with the
light of the Lord, so I can escape the rut of life I am
in. Teach me to allow His light to shine through me
that I can enjoy and others can see. Show me how
light creates hope that darkness cannot create.”
