BIBLE PASSAGE:
The eyes of the Lord your God are always on the land,
from the beginning of the year to the very end of the year.
(Deuteronomy 11:12)
MEDITATION:
Have you ever heard someone make a comment like,
“Where was (or is) God in all of this?”
Whenever we don’t fully understand something, we ask questions, don’t we?
However, when we question God’s presence, it could be an indication that we
don’t have the relationship He wants us to have with Him; or that we have
had a momentary break in our fellowship with Him.
Even those in close fellowship with the Lord have questions at times about
things that happen. The loss of a loved one, the injustices that we see, the
financial burden we are struggling with, an incurable sickness, the loss of
a job, a wayward child or relative, depression, worry, etc. We could list
many more instances, but a glaring question some may have in these
examples is,
“If God is there and He cares, then why have these things happened?”
We can discuss our questions with others, but our best source for answering
these types of questions is in the book God has graciously given us – the Bible.
We can’t understand more about God by merely laying His Word on a table
to collect dust. He gave us His Word because He loves us, He understands us,
and He wants us to love and fellowship with Him in return.
Why would God create us other than for us to love, fellowship with, and
worship Him? It may be hard for us to wrap our minds around it, but He
loves us with an even greater love than we have for our own children.
Believers can have moments of sadness, disappointment and even anger about
some things that happen when they don’t understand and can’t find a logical
explanation for it. However, God understands our emotions and doesn’t desert
us. We should never separate ourselves from Him when we can’t understand
His ways (God sees the big picture, but we can only see a snapshot).
We know we can never go back in time. We can recall the past, but we can’t
retrace any of the steps we have taken. However, we can chart our paths for
the future and trust that God has not (and will not) desert those who are a
part of His family. He is constantly observing us and the world we live in.
We should never remain chained to our old regretful memories; instead
we should move ahead focused on our relationship with God. Just as the
Lord watched over the land and His people during the times of Moses,
His eyes will be upon us as well!
ACTION:
Questions to consider:
– How is my relationship with the Lord?
– If I have questions, do I go to His Word to find answers?
Never forget that God loves us, understands us, wants to fellowship with
us and wants what is best for us. That means He will respond to us when
we have questions. He may not answer our questions immediately, but it
doesn’t mean He ignores our prayers, or abandons us.
All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful
toward those who keep the demands of His covenant.
(Psalm 25:10)
For He will command His angels
concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
(Psalm 91:11)
The Lord is righteous in all His
ways and faithful in all He does.
(Psalm 145:17)
But whoever loves God is known by God.
(1 Corinthians 8:3)
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love
comes from God. Everyone who loves has been
born of God and knows God.
(1 John 4:7)
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for watching over our land
and for watching over me. Thank You for Your Word that
assures me of Your constant presence. Help me remember
that Your faithful care will extend to every moment of the
rest of my life. Forgive me for the times that I question Your
decisions. Teach me to always read Your Word so that when
my emotions try to steer me in the wrong direction, I can
remember the promises You have given me. I pray that You
will start a revival in my soul beginning today.”
