BIBLE PASSAGE:
Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that
we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
(Hebrews 4:16)
MEDITATION:
If a person is not a member of the Lord’s family, they would approach
His throne with fear and trembling. However, those who belong to the
Lord should have a much different attitude when approaching His
throne. When He is our Father, we should approach His throne with
confidence.
We might have the question,
“How do we approach His throne?”
We approach His throne through prayer. Praying is a conversation
between us and God. It is a time when we express our concerns to
Him and voice our trust that He will provide what we need in a timely
manner. It is also a time for us to thank Him for the blessings He has
given us
Some people only pray whenever they are under great stress, in danger,
or overcome by uncertainty. For instance, if an airplane engine dies,
people who aren’t praying daily will suddenly consider the importance
of prayer and start to pray. Some soldiers consider prayer as important,
especially when they are in the midst of a battle.
Whenever there are times of trouble, some people instinctively pray
to a God whom they know about, but don’t know intimately. They
have not spent time daily, getting to know the Lord and building a
relationship with Him. Yet, when bad times come, they want to have
fellowship with Him because some things are much bigger than we
are capable of handling on our own.
The scriptures tell us that when we are a part of His family, we can
approach His throne with confidence. Why? Because we know that
from His heart mercy and grace, the Lord gives us what we need.
When we know Him intimately, He freely meets our needs (which
may not be our wants but are what He knows we need).
As individuals we can feel more confident and stronger when we are
close to the Lord. A nation can also become stronger when it unites
in earnest prayer to the God of the universe.
Whenever we need answers as an individual or a nation, we need to
confidently approach the throne of almighty God in prayer. We need
to be filled with confidence that we belong to Him because He is our
Heavenly Father.
ACTION:
Questions to consider:
– What kind of prayer life do I have?
– Do I communicate with God every day?
If not, then why not?
We shouldn’t wait until we have a specific need to talk to Him.
We should talk to Him daily and if we are unsure of what to say,
we can praise Him for who He is, and thank Him for the blessings
He has given us.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, my desire is to communicate with You confidently.
I want to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I belong to You. I now
realize the importance of developing a close relationship with You and
that’s what I want. If I don’t belong to You, then make me aware of it
and guide me to someone who can explain to me what I must do. Teach
me to develop a daily prayer life so I can get to know You better. Help
me to instinctively know that whenever troubles come my way, my first
response is to talk to You, with a confident knowledge that You will
provide me with what I need for coping with or overcoming issues.
Help me to develop consistency in praying so that communicating
with You becomes the highlight of each day for me.”
