DEVOTIONALS

HAS YOUR LIFE BECOME MUNDANE, BORING AND ROUTINE?

BIBLE PASSAGE:
“The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing.
The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.”
(John 6:63)

MEDITATION:
According to God’s Word, if we want to ‘really live’ here on earth,
we need to have His Spirit actively living within us. If we depend
on the flesh to provide us with life, we will be disappointed. If we
are to receive His Spirit, Jesus tells us that we must be born again.
That was the message he gave to Nicodemus who was one of the
more religious men when Jesus walked the earth in human form.
Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus
who was a member of the Jewish ruling council.
    (John 3:1)

Look at the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus:
He came to Jesus at night and said,
“Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher
who has come from God. For no one
could perform the signs you are doing
if God were not with him.”

    Jesus replied,
“Very truly I tell you, no one can see the
kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

    Nicodemus asked.
“How can someone be born when they are
old? Surely they cannot enter a second time
into their mother’s womb to be born!”

    Jesus answered,
“Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the
kingdom of God unless they are born of
water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to
flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
You should not be surprised at my saying,
‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows
wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but
you cannot tell where it comes from or where
it is going. So it is with everyone born of the
          Spirit.”

    Nicodemus asked.
        “How can this be?”

    Jesus said,
“You are Israel’s teacher, and do you not
understand these things? Very truly I tell
you, we speak of what we know, and we
testify to what we have seen, but still you
people do not accept our testimony. I have
spoken to you of earthly things and you do
not believe; how then will you believe if I
speak of heavenly things? No one has ever
gone into heaven except the one who came
from heaven—the Son of Man. Just as Moses
lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the
Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone
who believes may have eternal life in him.”
          (John 3:2-15)

When we look at their conversation, we can see a message to us as well.
We might know a lot of ‘religious stuff’, quote scriptures, and serve in
our church, but still not ‘know’ Jesus.

Nicodemus could not use his religiosity to experience a spiritual rebirth,
and neither can we. There are some ‘religious’ people who have not been
reborn. Spiritual rebirth is more than something to be talked about, it has
to be experienced.

If we are golfers, we can read every book we can find about golf, but
our game is not going to get any better unless we go out on the course
and play. When we play, we can experience firsthand the ‘tips’ we have
been reading about.

It is the same way with God’s Spirit – we need to experience it in our
life if we expect to understand and appreciate this gift from the Lord.
We can study theology and religion, but there comes a time when we
must experience Christ for ourselves.

When His Spirit lives in us, we will gladly relinquish our will for His will
and we will welcome His guidance in all that we do. More than likely we
will be taken out of our comfort zone, but rather than dreading or rejecting
it, we will anticipate it with a feeling of excitement. Why? Because we know
we will have an opportunity to see the Lord in action!

ACTION:
Questions to consider:
    – Am I enjoying life or just struggling to make it through each day?
    – Do I find that in general, life has become boring and uneventful?

With God’s Spirit alive in us, we can move from an uneventful, boring
and mundane ‘rut’ to a dynamic and exciting life. When we are ‘born
again’, our eyes are opened to things we haven’t seen or experienced
before; and even things we are familiar with, will look different to us.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for yet another promise from You!
When Your Spirit lives within me, I know that my life will be
changed and I will start living a new and exciting life! I can
only imagine where You will take me and how You will use me!
If I have fooled myself into thinking that I am a believer but
I have never truly been reborn, then make me aware of it so
I can get everything in the right order and start a new, exciting
journey that will conclude when I see You face to face. You have
promised a new life for me and for that, I praise and worship You!”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 120 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
