KNOWLEDGE OR WISDOM – WHICH DO YOU PREFER?

BIBLE PASSAGE:
It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, Who has
become for us wisdom from God – that is, our righteousness,
holiness and redemption.”
(1 Corinthians 1:30)

MEDITATION:
All of us would agree that education is a good thing, wouldn’t we?
Education is what allows us to gain knowledge; a good education
can open the door to many job opportunities. But there is one
thing that formal education doesn’t provide for us – Godly wisdom.

Why? Because educational institutes seldom include anything
related to God in their curriculum (unless it’s a seminary).
Some professors in secular colleges have a reputation for trying
to convince vulnerable students that God doesn’t even exist.

Whenever God is missing from anything, and particularly education,
it opens the door for people to embellish sinful lifestyles, where sins
are expanded, enlarged, and multiplied. Each person is created with
a spirit and the educational system would be enhanced by an emphasis
on the spiritual realm, which includes the God Who does exist.

Our world is on a slippery slope of increasing evilness and a lack of morals.
If only one generation evolves with a lack of wisdom that only God can give,
we can expect evilness to accelerate. Without Godly wisdom, murders are
committed with complete disregard for the person and the impact it will
have on the families of the victim.

We have seen an increase in senseless murders increasing each year. All
murders should be considered senseless, but there is less remorse in those
taking the life of someone else. Without wisdom there is no moral compass
to govern respect for human life.

Disrespect for life at any age can result in disrespect at all ages. When we
look at the numbers of unborn who are killed each year (protected by law),
we can understand why there is a decline in the remorse of those guilty of
murder. Murder has become an activity more than it is a crime.

We have seen murder used as a replacement for healthy (or even unhealthy)
debates. When two people disagree even with trivial matters, one feels justified
in ending the life of another as a way of winning the debate. We have also seen
mass killings without any provocation.

God has established His laws and the consequences of breaking them.
For instance, we can say that God established the law of gravity and
we know the consequences of violating that law. He also created laws
regarding murder, but mankind has decided that His law is too harsh
and has modified it so that people are less fearful of the consequences
of taking the life of someone else. Here are a few scriptures regarding
murder:
Whoever takes a human life shall surely be put to death.
    (Leviticus 24:17)

    You shall not murder.
    (Exodus 20:13)

Whoever strikes a man so that he dies shall be put to death.
    (Exodus 21:12)

    You shall not murder.
    (Deuteronomy 5:17)

Education is an amassing of facts, but wisdom is knowing what to do with
those facts, and especially in the spiritual realm. God gives us wisdom so
we will know what to do to please Him. Wisdom also gives us the ability to
have positive relationships with others. Without wisdom, we can develop
a mindset that other people are no more than objects for our own pleasure.

If we expect to receive His wisdom, it starts with our fear of the Lord.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
    (Proverbs 9:10)

The fear of God is an attitude of respect, reverence and wonder toward Him.
It is the only appropriate response to our Creator and Redeemer. We cannot
expect to receive God’s wisdom from educational institutes; it doesn’t come
from man, but from God Himself.

When we receive salvation from the Lord, do we automatically receive
wisdom as well? Look at this verse in James:
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God,
who gives generously to all without finding fault,
and it will be given to you.
    (James 1:5)

It doesn’t mean we can’t receive wisdom unless we ask for it, but
the scripture tells us that if we know we are lacking in wisdom,
we can ask for it and God will provide it to those who belong to
Him.

Look at how He gives it to us – generously and without finding fault.
God gives us more wisdom than we expect and He doesn’t allocate it
based on our faults, but on our relationship with Him and our desire
to grow spiritually.

ACTION:
Question to ask ourselves:
    – Do I want wisdom and understanding in my own life?
    – How is my relationship with the Lord?
    – Do I have respect, awe and reverence for God?
    – Have I allowed education to become my god?
       Education should include a better
understanding of God which leads to wisdom.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise of wisdom to those
who have a reverential fear of the Lord; those with a wholesome
dread of displeasing You; those who fear the consequences of
disobedience; and those who take Your commands seriously. I
pray that You will create the appropriate fear in me so that I can
experience the wisdom that comes only from You. I know that
wisdom from You will bring completeness into my life and I can
become a better servant of Yours.”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
