RESPECT YOUR PARENTS

“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long
in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”
Exodus 20:12

Whether you are young or old, you can honor your parents.
How? By showing respect.
Leviticus 19:3 says,
“Each of you must respect your mother and father,
and you must observe my Sabbaths. I am the Lord your God.”

Some translations say,
“Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father…..”
The word “fear” doesn’t mean to quake in the presence of your parents.
It means you are to have a holy respect for your father and your mother.

You may say,
“But, my parents are not worthy of respect.”
With all due respect, you aren’t either.
None of us are worthy.
Only perfect children can demand perfect parents, and no children are perfect.
Our parents are imperfect.
We are imperfect, but God is holy and He says that we are to respect our parents.

You can also honor your parents by avoiding the ungodly things of which they disapprove.
What you do is a reflectionon your parents and their reputation.

Lastly, you can honor your parents by doing the things that they desire when they are godly.
For instance, reading the bible, praying, attending church worship, etc.
When you participate in these, you are saying to your parents,
“I respect you and your beliefs.”

What’s your relationship like with your parents?
If you’ve been showing less than the type of biblical respect that God requires,
then begin today to turn that around for His glory!

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
