(Matthew 3:11, Mark 1:7-8, Luke 3:16,
John 1:33, Acts 1:4-5, 1 Corinthians 12:13)
The purpose of the baptism with the Holy Spirit
is to bring the new Christian into the body of Christ (Romans 8:9).
– The Holy Spirit brings the body of Christ together as one:
– Same spirit (1 Corinthians 12:4, 8-9)
– One spirit (1 Corinthians 12:9, 13)
– One and same spirit (1 Corinthians 12:11)
– Same Lord (1 Corinthians 12:5)

– No division in the body (1 Corinthians 12:25)
SEAL, PLEDGE, AND WITNESS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
– Seal (Ephesians 1:13 & 4:30):
– When the Holy Spirit seals us, we are secure in Christ.
In essence, nothing can touch us (Romans 8:38-39).
– It also means we are owned by Christ (Jeremiah 32:9-10).
(we see the pattern established for seals in these verses)
– Pledge:
– (2 Corinthians 1:21-22)
The Spirit’s presence in our lives
is God’s pledge that He will fulfill His promise.
– (2 Corinthians 5:1-5)
The Spirit in our lives is God’s pledge
that we will receive spiritual bodies at Christ’s coming.
– (Ephesians 1:13-14)
The Spirit is God’s pledge guaranteeing our inheritance, until
the future brings the total redemption of those who are God’s possession.
– Seal/pledge summary:
When we are baptized into the body of Christ,
the Spirit enters our lives and His presence seals us.
He is God’s pledge – assuring us of our inheritance to come.
– Witness:
– The Holy Spirit witnesses to us,
(and is in the hearts of all true believers).

Witness of Jesus Christ’s atonement for us.
– (Romans 8:16)
