BIBLE PASSAGE:
“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
(Romans 5:1)
MEDITATION:
Faith is to the Christian life, what gas is to an automobile.
It is what keeps us living the Christian life,
and what keeps us growing in spiritual maturity.
Without faith, we are more susceptible to Satan’s attacks.
So, what exactly is faith?
First, let’s look at what faith is not.
Faith is not a hunch or positive thinking (it is faithful thinking).
Nor is it a response to emotions, feelings, signs and wonders,
or shivers running up and down our spine.
Faith knows that God will do something.
Faith believes and trusts God’s Word.
Real faith reduces doubts.
Faith overcomes discouragement.
Faith is fueled by the possibilities and not the impossibilities.
Webster defines faith as:
Belief and trust in and loyalty to God; complete trust;
something that is believed especially with strong conviction.
firm belief in something for which there is no proof.
The last definition reminds us that faith is not only
‘before’ something takes place, but it is also ‘after’.
True faith doesn’t view things as ‘luck’ or ‘good fortune’
but instead recognizes God’s hand involved.
Faith also acknowledges that all things we have are gifts
from our almighty and gracious Heavenly Father.
With faith, there is no room for arrogant pride.
Instead we have a sincere and undeniable
thankfulness for God’s love and his provisions.
ACTION:
What kind of faith do you have?
Do you accept the fact that all you have comes from God?
A faith that realizes that God has given you much more
than the necessities (food, clothing, shelter, oxygen, heartbeat).
A faith that knows God has provided your abilities, talents,
special gifts, intelligence, skills, and capabilities.
Faith means you never feel independent from the One you
are thankful for, and have confidence that you can depend on.
Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?”
“From childhood,” he answered. “It has often thrown him into
fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity
on us and help us.” “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is
possible for one who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father
exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
(Mark 9:21-24)
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for all You have given
me. Increase my faith and dependence on You. Help
me overcome my unbelief.”
