BIBLE PASSAGE:
“Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.
He will bring forth your righteousness as the light and your judgment
as the noonday sun. Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do
not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man
who carries out wicked schemes.”
(Psalm 37:5-7)
MEDITATION:
When we are overburdened, the world can seem like a colder place.
The sun may be shining, but our heads are bowed low,
so we don’t notice.
The birds sing, but our ears are filled with the cries of
our hearts – exclamations of pain, sorrow, and weariness.
We put distance between ourselves and others
as our problems absorb our time and attention.
Perhaps we are weighed down by unmet expectations;
maybe it is a result of sudden trauma or death;
or it could be simply too much responsibility.
However, there is the possibility
that sin is causing our heaviness of heart.
Whatever the cause, the result is the same;
we are burdened by a crushing weight.
Into our bleakness comes the voice of almighty God
inviting us to draw near to Him and find rest.
“This is what the LORD says: ‘Stand at the crossroads and
look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is,
and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls . . .”’
(Jeremiah 6:16)
ACTION:
If you feel heavily burdened right now, take the advice
of the scriptures and look up to your heavenly Father.
Jesus offers living water; take time to drink until your
soul is strengthened enough for you to ask the way.
With the Spirit’s help, take one step,
then another down that ancient path of obedience,
and He will give you the promised peace you are seeking.
Jeremiah 6:16
ends with God pointing out the Israelites’ response:
“But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.”’
God was there to help them, but they refused His help.
It is only when we trust in the Father’s plan
that we will find relief from our burdens.
What are His plans for you?
We need to stand, look, ask, and walk in His ways so that
we can find the rest the Lord has promised for our souls.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, You know how my heart and soul is burdened
right now, and You know the impact is having on my spirit. Father,
You have promised to show me the way to peace in the midst of a
storm. You know the answers that I am searching for. You know
how to calm my emotions and lift my downtrodden spirit. I pray
that you will help and encourage me as I trust in You and the peace
You can bring into my life. If my heart’s heaviness is a result of my
Own actions, then make me aware of them and guide me in making
the changes I need to make. I know that Your way is good, and that
Your plans for me are excellent; show me the path You have created
specifically for me, and help me to follow it so that I can find peace,
not only for my own soul, but one that will have a positive impact on
others as well. Thank You, Father for Your love, forgiveness, mercy,
grace, blessings, guidance, and salvation!”
