BIBLE PASSAGE:
Cast your burdens upon the LORD and he will sustain
you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.
(Psalm 55:22)
MEDITATION:
There is an old story about a man who
was carrying a heavy load of grain down a country road.
Another man in a horse-drawn wagon saw
this traveler carrying his heavy load of grain and said,
“Mister, you need a ride? Get up here with me, and I’ll take you.”
So the man got up in the wagon and they went on their way.
A few minutes passed, and the driver looked behind him
to see if the traveler was settled in.
He couldn’t believe what he saw – the man
still had the load of grain on his shoulder.
He said,
“Man, put that down and relax!”
But the traveler said,
“Oh no. It’s enough to ask you to carry me
without having you carry this load also.”
ACTION:
Have you ever done that with the Lord?
Have you said (or implied),
“Lord, I’ll let You save me, but I’ll carry my own burdens.”
If we can trust Jesus to save us from hell,
then certainly we can trust Him to carry our burdens.
If we fail to pray and ask for His help with our burdens,
then we are expressing our ‘independence’ instead of
our ‘dependence’ on the One who gave us relief from
our greatest burden; He wants our ‘dependence’ and
not our ‘independence’ (which says we don’t need Him).
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for taking the greatest burden
I could ever have – the burden of sin which leads to death.
Forgive me for the times I have failed to come to You with
ALL my burdens. I realize now that when I fail to do that, I
am showing a lack of trust in Your ability and desire to carry
my burdens for me. Help me to reject the ideas Satan plants
in my mind that “You are too busy with other prayer requests,
so I will ‘help You’ by taking care of some of my burdens myself”.
Thank You for not only loving me, but also for Your assurance
that You can be trusted and depended on to handle my burdens
for me. You know answers to my burdens that I could have never
imagined.”
