BIBLE PASSAGE:
We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
when we pray for you.
(Colossians 1:3)
MEDITATION:
As believers, we should always lift up others in prayer,
but have you ever thanked God for them at the same time?
The world would rather have us focusing on the faults
of others, but God wants us to encourage each other
and we can do that by recognizing their good qualities.
We should not only focus on their positives, but also have
an appreciation for their efforts to serve and please the Lord.
We can do that when we witness their faith and their love
for other people, along with their concern for their spirituality
and relationship with the Lord (including salvation).
Look at how Paul and Timothy encouraged
the followers of Christ in the city of Colossae.
“…we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of
the love you have for all God’s people” (Colossians 1:4)
Additionally, they applauded their faith and love
which defined their character and was undeniable.
“the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up
for you in heaven and about which you have already
heard in the true message of the gospel” (Colossians 1:5)
And lastly, they spoke encouraging words to them about
how their lives were advancing the gospel of Jesus Christ.
“that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing
fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has
been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly
understood God’s grace.” (Colossians 1:6)
ACTION:
From the first part of their letter to the believers in Colossae,
we can see how easy it can be to thank God for those
who are committed to openly express their
faith and love of the Lord and others.
It can benefit us as well, can’t it?
When we focus on the positives in others, it can
have a positive impact on our view of the world.
It can also inspire us to be more open and expressive
about our own faith, and it can motivate us
to serve the Lord in whatever way He has chosen for us.
Don’t miss out on opportunities to thank God
for His faithful followers of Jesus Christ.
Just as Paul and Timothy did, look for ways to
encourage other Christians – you too will be encouraged.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, I know I have been remiss in thanking
You for those who belong to You, and how they are unashamed
for others to know it. Teach me to be more thankful for how
Your Word (and You) is living through them, and for the
impact their lives are having on other people. Encourage
me to let others see my faith and hope in You, so that I too
can contribute to the spreading of the gospel.”
