BIBLE PASSAGE:
“But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send
in My name, will teach you all things, and will remind you of
everything I have said to you”
(John 14:26)
MEDITATION:
Jesus called the Holy Spirit the “Comforter” for good reason.
Whenever peace enters your heart in the midst of grief;
whenever joy enters your heart in the midst of a trial;
whenever you see evidence of His life in yours, you can
be sure the Holy Spirit is flowing through your life.
Will He forget you? Never. The seal of the Holy Spirit is on your
life when you are a child of God. How do we know? The scriptures
tell us we are sealed (for the day of redemption).
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God,
with whom you were sealed for the day
of redemption.
(Ephesians 4:30)
Some think of the Holy Spirit as some kind of inanimate being,
but He is a person who is part of the Trinity. We know that He
is a person with feelings, because we are told not to grieve Him.
How do we grieve Him? We can grieve Him in many ways such
as giving in to sin, not allowing Him to have control of our minds,
not allowing Him to develop Christ-like characteristics in us, etc.
Some scriptures refer to the Holy Spirit as our Advocate. That means
that He not only helps us in our weak areas, but He also prays for us
when we have trouble expressing the desires of our hearts.
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness.
We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the
Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
(Romans 8:26)
When we allow the Holy Spirit to become active in us, we are
on the right track of ‘not grieving’ Him and we can begin to
see some amazing changes in our lives, attitudes, and habits.
Whenever we pass through a room or walk through a crowd,
others can see His joy and gladness flowing through us!
ACTION:
Never forget that ‘the Father’ doesn’t ‘send’ anything to
us that is not for our (and others’) benefit. God doesn’t
give us anything to ‘set on a shelf’, collect dust, and become
idle and unused.
We need to be grateful for His ‘sending’ of the Holy Spirit;
embrace God’s gift to us and invite the Comforter to have
an impact on everything we do. Don’t miss out on how He
can mold you into a better child of God.
Read and ‘chew on’ these verses.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all
comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that
we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort
we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share
abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our
comfort abounds through Christ.
(2 Corinthians 1:3-5)
After meditating on these verses, think about how you
can show the comfort of Christ to someone else who is
hurting. What are some ways you can encourage and lift
the spirits of someone else? How can you exchange your
‘selfishness’ for ‘selflessness’ and allow the Holy Spirit to
become an active part of your life?
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for sending the Comforter to me.
I admit that I haven’t thought of the Holy Spirit as a person who
can affect me in so many positive ways. Thank You for His ability
to mold me into the type of person You want me to be. Today I
invite the Holy Spirit to take control of my mind, and I look forward
to the positive changes I will experience in my life. Remind me to
be sensitive to the needs of others, and to respond to whatever the
Holy Spirit is guiding me to do.”
