DEVOTIONALS

ARE YOU ASHAMED OR EMBARRASSED ABOUT THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST?

BIBLE PASSAGE:
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power
of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes:
first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.”
(Romans 1:16).

MEDITATION:
A little boy had a dog and somebody asked him what kind of dog he was.
The little fellow said, “He’s a police dog.”
But, everyone could see that he was just a mongrel.
A friend replied, “Well, he doesn’t look like a police dog.”
The little guy said, “He’s in the secret service.”

There may be many believers who are in the secret service for the Lord.
Remaining undercover instead of being open, bold, and unashamed about their faith.
In spite of the problems he faced as a result of his faith, Paul said
that he was not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
He knew there was power in the gospel, and he was not going to suppress
that power by hiding it (especially since it brings salvation to the lost).

ACTION:
We live in a world where people are becoming
less and less ashamed to hide their sinfulness.
Some of them seem to wear their sin as a badge for all to see.
By doing this, they entice others to participate in their sinfulness.

The question we have to ask ourselves is,
“Am I ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ?”
At which point do we go into hiding?
Are we ashamed to put a Bible on our desk at work?

Are we ashamed to bow our head in prayer in a cafeteria or restaurant?
Are we ashamed to invite people to Jesus Christ?
Are we ashamed to go to church and worship with other believers?
Ultimately, are we ashamed of the One who died for us?

Some folks may say,
“Well, I just don’t believe in wearing my faith on my sleeve.”
Then, what will we wear?
Apostles in the scriptures ‘wore their faith on their sleeves’
regardless of the ridicule, oppression, or even the abuse they faced.

Why? Because their faith was that important to them.
Being bold about our faith doesn’t mean we all become pastors
or missionaries, but it does mean that other people
will have no doubt about our faith in our Savior.
Our lifestyle (words, actions, attitudes, etc.) is our testimony of our faith.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, forgive me for being shy or embarrassed about
my faith in Your Son. Help me to become more bold about the One
I believe in. May I show others that my faith is real by consistently
meeting with other believers in Your house. Forgive me for placing
a higher priority on anything that keeps me from attending worship
with my family in Christ. I pray that regardless of what is going on
around me, or what environment I am in, I will never be ashamed
for others to know that I have surrendered my life to the Lord.”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
