BIBLE PASSAGE:
Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside
the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you
not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you,
whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were
bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
(1 Corinthians 6:18-20)
MEDITATION:
When we receive God’s salvation, we can expect
a metamorphic type change in our lives (we are no longer who we were).
This is not something to be ‘dreaded’ because it means losing our selfishness, but
a change to be ‘embraced’ because we know we will grow closer to our Creator.
We don’t have to be a theological scholar to know that whenever we fail
to allow the Holy Spirit to seize control of our thoughts and actions,
something else will fill His position (and it will be in opposition to God’s Will).
Whatever replaces the Holy Spirit in your life will soon become an addiction.
It could be drugs, alcohol, infidelity, pornography, or any number of other things,
which will enslave us to its power and seize control of our lives.
If we truly want the Holy Spirit to be an integral part of our life,
then we need to actively pursue a relationship with Him.
We can all agree that it is easy to get into a relationship,
but it’s a whole different story to make the relationship work.
Too many people treat relationships as something to be conquered,
and then set aside, so that they can conquer the next thing.
If we are competitive, then we love the pursuit, the winning of the prize, and
then we suffer (instead of embracing) the maintenance of the relationship.
When we look at the Trinity (God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit)
we see that they are separate, but they are also One.
They express their individuality in unity – because they are One.
As individuals, they remain united in their characteristics, desires, goals, etc.
Throughout scripture we can see how they are interlaced as One.
They are intimately connected to each other, an yet,
all three (God, Jesus, Holy Spirit) want an intimate relationship with you!
When we read God’s Word, we see Jesus interacting with the Godhead.
He constantly connects and cooperates with God the Father.
The scriptures tell us how He steals away time to communicate
with the Father; they ‘do life’ together; they are intimately connected.
This is the type of relationship God wants with you!
The Holy Spirit wants a strong and intimate relationship with you!
Pursuing this relationship with the Holy Spirit will require:
– Meditation in God’s Word (listening to Him).
– Interaction with Him through prayer (having a conversation with Him).
– Affirmation of His presence and purpose
in your life (confirming a relationship with Him).
– Cooperation with Him on a daily basis (partnering with Him).
These things create a ‘real’ relationship with a ‘real’ person – the Holy Spirit.
ACTION:
Who, or what, is in driver’s seat of your mind, will, words, and actions?
Have you become enslaved to something in opposition to God’s Will?
If so, then humbly ask the Lord for forgiveness and actively pursue
an intimate relationship with the ‘person’ of the Holy Spirit.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, forgive me for failing to allow the Holy Spirit to
be in control of my thoughts, words, and actions. Thank You for
sending Him into my life to guide me, to fight my battles with
temptations, to give me wisdom, and to say my prayers for me
whenever I struggle with finding the words to express myself.
Thank You for giving me the opportunity to have an intimate
and long lasting relationship with the Holy Spirit, IF, I pursue
with passion and a genuine desire to give Him leadership of my
life.”
