BIBLE PASSAGE:
I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come
in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and
destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
(John 10:9-10)
MEDITATION:
We need to be living our lives with the knowledge of the presence of the Lord.
Our environment is fast paced and encourages us to make rushed decisions.
Many doors will open, and many doors will close in our lives.
This means we will have many decisions in our lives – so, what should we do?
We need to remember that through it all, Jesus Christ will
be behind each and every door, when we seek Him with all our heart.
Satan will frequently knock at our heart’s door, and we need to
be aware that we just cannot battle him in our own strength.
Many ask the Holy Spirit to ‘help’ them fight the devil,
but as weak as we are, I’m not sure we should even involve ourselves.
We need to ask the Holy Spirit to fight the battle ‘for’ instead of ‘with’ us.
Think of the phrase, “I am the gate” as the Holy Spirit standing there
blocking the entrance of our minds, to prevent temptations
from entering and taking up residence in our minds.
The Lord is there with us to take care of us.
He has made this promise to His followers,
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you
have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
(Hebrews 13:5)
ACTION:
When the door of opportunity knocks for you, before making a decision,
pause for a moment to reflect on the Lord’s goodness, His mercy,
His love, and His faithfulness.
Then trust Him to give you what you need to make the right decision.
He may not always guide you in the way you think you want to go,
but He will most assuredly guide you in the way that is best for you.
And He may not always give you an immediate decision, however if
you exercise patience, you can trust that the delays will be beneficial.
Once I had a major job change decision that took three months to finalize.
If I had ‘jumped on’ the opportunity initially, I would have missed out on
some benefits such as a higher starting salary, and extra weeks of vacation.
The company I left eventually laid off their employees (in less than 5 years),
while the new company took me all the way to retirement, and remains
a strong, highly recognized Fortune 500 company today (ranked 70th).
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I have failed to trust You.
Whenever I have choices, remind me of Your presence and how I
should patiently wait for Your guidance. Thank You for standing
at the gate of my mind to block Satan from infiltrating my thoughts.
Teach me the value of developing a mindset similar to Yours.”
