THE TREASURES OF WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE

BIBLE PASSAGE:
“My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united
in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete
understanding, in order that they may know the mystery
of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures
of wisdom and knowledge.”
(Colossians 2:2-3)

MEDITATION:
Many years ago, the Spanish Armada was sailing off the coast of Florida.
A hurricane struck, and the ships filled with gold and silver ingots sunk
to the bottom. People knew the treasure had been lost and believed one
ship went down near Vero Beach in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Fishermen fished over that spot, and possibly hung a hook on a lump of
gold at times. One day some explorers went diving, and there was the ship
in the shallow water. In fact the water was so shallow that any of us could
have swam to the bottom and brought up millions of dollars.

Similarly, there are possibly many of us who have not discovered the full
treasure we have in Jesus Christ.

Wisdom and knowledge doesn’t equate to intelligence.
Wisdom and knowledge mean:
    – knowing God’s Will and having the self-discipline to obey Him;
    – knowing the characteristics of Jesus and the desire to
      develop those same characteristics in our own life;

    – discovering the spiritual gifts God has given us,
      having the desire and determination to use them in serving Him;
    – understanding and appreciating the mercy and grace of God
      and being thankful for all the blessings He has given us;

    – knowing the value of exercising patience and loving others;
    – knowing how humility is much more valuable than arrogant pride
      (according to His Word, God hates pride,
       and whatever He hates should not be a part of our lives);
    – discovering the treasures He has for those who love Him;
    – having an overall desire to know and fellowship with God.

ACTION:
Have you made a conscious decision to “plug in” and find the
treasures from the Lord? Or, are you living life in the shallow
end, wondering if His treasures will ever come to you?

Remember wisdom and knowledge are gifts from God; egotism
and arrogant pride are misuses of those gifts. We should be using
them as God intended and not as trophies or awards which cause
us to look down on others.

God gives us special gifts and talents so that He can use us to
impact the lives of others in a positive way. Satan doesn’t want
that to happen and if we allow him to, he can destroy what God
has given us, and cause us to miss out on the joy of using His
treasures for good.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for all of Your blessings,
and especially for the special gifts and talents You have
given me to use for Your glory. Help me to enjoy Your
gifts, and to avoid abusing them as a means of building
up myself and feeding my own ego. Show me how I can
use what You have given me to lift up others.”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
