DEVOTIONALS

ARE YOU SUFFERING FROM SPIRITUAL MALNUTRITION?

BIBLE PASSAGE:
What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?
Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?
(Mark 8:36-37)

MEDITATION:
We live in a world where we are encouraged to dedicate a lot of our attention
to satisfying the appetites of the body, but practically none to the soul.
As a result, we have become one-sided.
We are pleasurably and materially fat,
but we are spiritually lean, weak and anemic.

The soul actually demands as much attention as the body.
It demands fellowship and communion with God;
it demands worship, quietness, and meditation.
Unless the soul is fed and exercised daily, it becomes weak and shriveled up.
It remains discontented, confused, and restless.

Many people turn to alcohol to try and drown out
the crying and longing of the soul.
Some turn to a new sexual experience;
others attempt to quiet the longings of their souls in other ways.

However, nothing but God ever completely satisfies,
because the soul was made for God;
and without God it is restless and in constant torment.
When we connect with God, we feed and nourish our soul.

ACTION:
How healthy is your soul?
Have you been feeding your fleshly desires and starving your soul?
If so, you don’t have to continue down the same path.
Make a conscious decision to start spending time each day feeding your soul
with a quiet time dedicated to bible reading and prayer.

Try this: before reading the bible,
pray and ask the Lord to ‘speak to you through His Word’.
And when you read, be more concerned with
the content of what your read, than you are about how much you read.
God can speak to us in just a few words, or with many, whichever is needed.
It is a time of meditating and connecting, as opposed to a reading exercise.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, when I cried out for forgiveness and love, You
were there! Thank You for giving me a soul for fellowshipping with
You, and forgive me if I have overlooked the need for nourishing
Your gift to me. Help me in my efforts to give more attention to my
soul, so that I can walk closer with You.”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
