MEEK MEANS STRONG? REALLY? YES IT DOES, IF WE BELIEVE GOD’S WORD

BIBLE PASSAGE:
Blessed are the meek; for they shall inherit the earth.
(Matthew 5:5)

MEDITATION:
“Meekness” gives us a good contrast
between the world’s view and the view of Jesus.
The world presents us with a different view of many words
in order to discourage us from following God’s Will for our lives.

From a worldly standpoint, the adjective “meek” describes a person who
is willing to go along with whatever other people want to do (someone
who will not speak up, even when he or she is treated unfairly).
It depicts someone who is weak and allows others to determine their actions.

However meekness is viewed in a totally different way by the Lord.
To Him, meekness describes someone who humbles himself before the Lord.
It is someone who willingly replaces their selfish desires
with a desire to follow God’s Will for their lives.
Rather than ‘going along’ with what others want to do,
a meek person chooses to ‘go along’ with what God wants them to do.

It takes a strong person with a strong faith to be able to accomplish this.
Only someone who respects, appreciates, and has confidence and trust
in the Lord, can change from a self-centered person to a God-centered person.
Meekness does mean weakness,
but instead should be the description of a person who has a ‘gentle strength’.

A person of meekness has a good self-esteem because
they know the Lord is leading them in the paths they should follow;
paths that lead to peace, joy, fearlessness, and unimaginable blessings.
They aren’t distracted by everything that tries to control their minds,
because they live in anticipation of the blessings awaiting them
when they stay on the Lord’s path for them.

A weak person can be easily influenced by other things, and change paths
depending on which ‘thing’ has the greatest influence on them at the time.
Constantly changing directions can create confusion and instability in one’s life.
They can create a daily churn of turmoil and restlessness.

Not so with a meek and Godly person!
Their strength and confidence gives them the ability to resist outside influences
which are detrimental to them, and ruin the path God has charted for them.
Meekness is not a liability, but rather an attribute of human nature and behavior.

It encompasses admirable characteristics such as righteousness, humbleness, being
teachable, patience (even when suffering), and a willingness to follow the Lord
regardless of whether or not it seems logical, or takes them out of their comfort zone.
In essence, meekness is one of the identifying characteristics of a true disciple.

The words of Jesus must have been shocking and seemed revolutionary
to others when He said ‘the meek would be blessed and inherit the earth’.
Inheriting the earth means finding the secret to true happiness
and the enjoyment of living life confidently.
Jesus was saying that in order to become a person of strength,
we should learn how to become a person of meekness.

ACTION:
Does the world have a greater influence on your life than God’s Will?
Have you been reluctant, or lack the faith
to allow meekness to become a part of your being?

God’s Word does not lie, so if Jesus says that as a meek person, you
will be blessed, then we know it is a fact, whether it makes sense or not.
Do you have, or can you muster up the strength to become a meek person?
Don’t be fooled by the world’s concept that meekness means weakness.
Believe God’s Word that meekness is sign of strength and faith.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, too many times I have allowed the ideas of the
world to influence me in a way that takes me off the path You have
charted for me. Meekness is something the world defines as weakness,
but You tell me that it takes a faithful strength to become meek, so
I pray for Your guidance in helping me to become meek. I now realize
that when I become meek, I will have a new confidence that gives me
the strength to absorb the unfair treatment of others, and a desire to
encourage and lift the spirits of people who are hurting. I can do this
because of the newfound confidence I receive as a benefit of becoming
meek. I pray that my life will reflect the meekness of Jesus.”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.

You aren’t the only one, I try to work on that all the time myself. Thank you for your comments. I can’t tell you how many times I am tempted to take credit for the devotionals, but I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content and I am merely His distributor. The good news is, I get to see them first! Thanks for your encouragement.

Yes, the devotionals and words are from the Lord. But I thank YOU for allowing Him to use you as His vessel. For your willingness to share so that He can speak to us too 🙂
