BIBLE PASSAGE:
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives
generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
(James 1:5)
MEDITATION:
Sometimes people tend to consider ‘wisdom’ and ‘knowledge’ as the same.
However, they are quite different.
“Knowledge” is about facts and ideas that we acquire through study,
research, investigation, observation, or experience.
“Wisdom” is the ability to discern and judge which aspects
of our knowledge are true, right, lasting, and applicable to our lives.
When we think in spiritual terms (relational to the Lord),
“knowledge” is knowing God’s Word, and “wisdom” is applying it to our lives.
God teaches us the right things to do (and not do),
and it’s up to us to allow that knowledge to permeate our lives.
Whenever we ask God for ‘wisdom’,
we are asking Him to help us use what He has taught us.
Of course, if fail to read His Word and learn from Him,
then we are missing an important aspect of gaining ‘spiritual wisdom’.
Asking for wisdom is saying to God,
“I have learned what You have shown me, help me to apply it to my life”.
Without studying His Word, we can’t say we have ‘learned’.
And without ‘learning’ then what do we apply?
When we have a good understanding of what we are taught in the educational
system, we anticipate opportunities to use the knowledge we have gained.
It should be the same when learning from God’s Word – we should
look forward to applying that knowledge to our own lives.
Whenever we ask God for wisdom, one of His initial answers to our request
could very well be, “Spend more time reading and learning from My Words”.
The more we read His Words,
the more we learn about Him and how He views things.
This prepares our minds
for the gift of wisdom He offers to those who belong to Him.
Then we develop a better understanding of the generosity of a loving Father
who wants what is best for us, including an intimate relationship with Him.
ACTION:
Does it humble you that the Almighty God who created the air you breathe, the
ground you walk on, and the body you are in, loves you and wants to bless you?
It’s true, and when we read His Word, we see the evidence of His love for us.
Some may feel that the less they know,
the less they will be responsible for their actions.
But of course it doesn’t work like that, we still have our conscience.
If you have been remiss in the ‘learning’ part of wisdom,
then start spending more time reading the bible.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father thank You for loving me and for Your blessings.
I pray that You would give me wisdom for applying Your instructions
to my own life. Forgive me if I am not spending enough time learning
more about You, Your Son, and the Holy Spirit. Help me to allocate
time every day for learning more from Your Words, so that I will be
better equipped for receiving Your gift of wisdom. I know that when
You give me wisdom, I will become a better child of Yours and can
have an impact on others for Your kingdom.”

Wisdom is earned, not learned. While learning stands as a catalyst for future emotional and spiritual growth, it is only through lived experience of walking in that path that our eyes can awaken to greater spiritual presence. Thank you for sharing

Posted by Don Woodruff | October 9, 2019, 7:14 pmDon…thank you for this post. I used to think that asking for wisdom was the same as asking for knowledge. But it makes perfect sense that wisdom is using (applying) knowledge wisely. There is so much I “know” but I have a need for wisdom to apply it rightly. THANK YOU

Posted by Kate Hufstetler | November 5, 2019, 10:52 amI can relate. Once someone asked me if I was going to attend a special seminar at our church. I said no, because I already know more than I’m doing. I need to apply what I’ve already learned before learning anything new.
