BIBLE PASSAGE:
Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become
blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and
crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky.
(Philippians 2:14-15)
MEDITATION:
Many people strive to obey God, and that is a good thing.
However, some are grumbling the whole time, and that is not a good thing.
Why do we grumble?
Because our heart is not where it should be.
Obedience is much more enjoyable when the heart is right.
God is concerned about the heart of the people who obey Him.
Look at what the Lord said to Samuel regarding David.
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height,
for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at.
People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
(1 Samuel 16:7)
God commands us to meet together with other believers,
but some spend time on Sunday mornings debating if they will attend church.
When our hearts are where they should be, we would be looking forward
to meeting with other believers, rather than finding reasons not to attend.
And, if we are debating our decision,
then we are probably not going to enjoy our time at church.
Instead of rejoicing and praising the Lord, we will probably be
grumbling about the singing, the temperature, the length of the service, etc.
ACTION:
Do you enjoy obeying the Lord,
or does it seem more like a chore to you?
Is it a task you can check off,
or do you get pleasure from knowing you are pleasing Him?
If you are not enjoying obeying God and meeting with other believers
to worship and praise Him, then it may be time for you to check your heart.
Perhaps you have forgotten about how Jesus spent over three hours on the
cross in obedience to the Father, so that you could have eternal life.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, forgive me if I have failed to have a heart for
obeying You. Create in me a heart for obedience and for meeting
with other believers to worship and praise You. Remind me that I
am a follower of Jesus and that He was obedient all the way to the
cross. Teach me the joy of following the example of the One in
whom I have placed my faith and trust.”
