BIBLE PASSAGE:
But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise;
God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised
things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things
that are, so that no one may boast before him.
(1 Corinthians 1:27-29)
MEDITATION:
None of us can fully understand the magnitude of God’s wisdom.
For instance, does it seem wise for His only Son to die on the cross?
We know the results of His sacrifice, but do we understand the “why”?
The scriptures tell us that He suffered for all of us so that those
who surrender to Him can have eternal life, but we wonder why
there was not a better path that would not require the death of
Jesus. The Greeks couldn’t understand it, and many today refuse
to accept it.
However, God is so wise that a person with the highest IQ cannot
figure Him out. Think about the greatness of His wisdom:
If we could come to God with our intellect, then He would not
be a fair God because all of the smart people would have an
advantage, while the others would be left in the shadows. Our
spirituality would be based on our intellect and not our faith.
Jesus understood God’s wisdom because He is part of the Trinity.
At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father,
Lord of heaven and earth, because you have
hidden these things from the wise and learned,
and revealed them to little children. (Matthew 11:25)
It is not that God is so high that we cannot communicate with
Him, but we have to humble ourselves as little children in order
to increase our faith. As long as we keep trying to analyze and
understand His actions, we will struggle with increasing our faith.
We have to have childlike thinking in order to have a mature faith.
Children basically have the attitude that, “If God said it, then it is true”.
They don’t try to justify their actions or rationalize what God could
have meant, they just accept everything He says at face value.
ACTION:
Where are you in your faith? Do you try to rationalize the things
from God, or do you accept them at face value? What about your
sins, do you try to justify them?
Do you take scriptures (or portions of scriptures) out of context
in order alleviate the guilt you feel for your sinfulness? For
instance, some say that living together is okay because they
love each other, so being married is not a requirement.
Really? Is that what God says? He refers to this as fornication,
which is sexual immorality (consensual sexual intercourse
between two people who are not married to each other).
For this is the will of God, your sanctification:
that you abstain from sexual immorality.
(1 Thessalonians 4:3)
It is the Will of God that we abstain from this type of immoral
behavior. The scriptures tell us that sanctification and sexual
immorality are mutually exclusive….we can’t have both.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father thank You for the greatness of Your wisdom.
I may not understand all that You do and the boundaries You
have established, but help me to accept everything from You by
faith alone. Teach me to increase my faith though humility, rather
than trying to elevate myself to Your level so that I can understand
all of Your guidelines and actions. Thank You for making salvation
non-dependent on our intellect and understanding, but something
to be received with a childlike faith.”
