BIBLE PASSAGE:
We wait in hope for the Lord; He is our help and our shield.
(Psalm 33:20)
MEDITATION:
I am a soul, and I have a body; my body is the house where my soul lives.
When Oliver Wendell Holmes was in his 80th year,
a friend hailed him and asked, “How are you?”
“I’m fine,” said Holmes, “the house I live in is tottering and crumbling,
but Oliver Wendell Holmes is fine, thank you.”
In this materialistic world,
we tend to forget that the real and enduring part of us is invisible.
A lot of time, money, and effort are spent
trying to perpetuate the physical part of us.
Many are overly concerned with their physical health,
but under concerned about their spiritual health.
As a result, doctors’ offices are overcrowded,
and many ministers’ counseling rooms are empty.
When God created man, He made him
distinctively different from the other animals.
Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground
and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life,
and the man became a living being. (Genesis 2:7)
He clothed human beings with intelligence, conscience, and a will.
He made us like Himself; we can become a companion and a friend of God.
At the resurrection, our mortality will be exchanged for immortality;
we will be like Him, and we will be with Him forever.
ACTION:
Which has the highest priority in your life, your physical or spiritual health?
Our physical health will continue to decline,
but our spiritual health can be nourished and increased.
God gave us intelligence and a will,
so it is up to us to decide which is most important to us.
He also gave us a conscience so we could know when we make the wrong choice.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, help me to be more focused on my spiritual health
and well-being, so that I will nourish my relationship with You. You
provide me with so much more than the world could ever offer. Help
me to realize Your promises and blessings, so that I will make good
choices.”
