DEVOTIONALS

ARE YOU IN NEED OF A TRUSTWORTHY AND LOVING FRIEND?

BIBLE PASSAGE:
But as for me, it is good to be near God.
I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge;
I will tell of all your deeds.
(Psalm 73:28)

MEDITATION:
Most of us know (and may have experienced) how cruel others can be.
Criminals have no respect for life and have become much more cold-hearted.
Even when a victim gives a thief what they ask for,
they are still in danger of being shot and killed.

We can also experience uncaring attitudes in relationships.
We may think that someone is trustworthy
but we find out later that they have betrayed us.
We share something confidentially with them, but they fail to keep it confidential.

It can cause us to distrust everyone when
we have been disappointed by someone we thought we could trust.
Everyone has an inner desire to have a close friend with whom
they can speak freely and without fear of a betrayal of any confidentiality.

We can fully trust God to be our sincere friend because He is the epitome of love.
The characteristics of love are exactly what we want in a close friend.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it
keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the
truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8a)

The psalmist showed his knowledge of the importance of being close to God
when he said, “It is good to be near God”.
He also knew that he could feel safe and secure in the presence of the Lord.
“I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge
He didn’t just figure this out on his own, but he experienced it!

The good news for us is, we can learn from the psalmist’s experiences.
God never changes so if it was good for the psalmist to be near God,
then it is good for us to be near Him as well.
If God never disappointed the psalmist, then He will never disappoint us.
If the psalmist felt secure in his personal relationship with God, then we will too.

ACTION:
True to his words, the psalmist “tells us of the good deeds of God”.
When we get near to God, we will want to tell others of His good deeds too.
Imagine for a moment how you could tell others
about how God has had a positive impact on your life.

Need a starting point?
Tell them how you were on a path leading to death
and God escorted you to a path that leads to life…for now, and for eternity.
God promises eternal life to those who belong to Him,
but He can also give us a new life and purpose while we are living on earth.

Ask God to give you the wisdom to be able to see
how He is fulfilling His promise of Romans 8:28 in every situation.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those
who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for being full of love, for never changing,
for not showing partiality, and for being trustworthy. I know that when I
am near You, my life will change for the better and I will have a desire
to share with others how You have blessed me. I pray that I will also
have an increasing desire to tell others how I have seen Your good deeds
in different situations and in the lives of others. You are a good, good Father
and I am loved by You!”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
