BIBLE PASSAGE:
LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.
(Psalm 6:1)
MEDITATION:
Have you ever experienced a time when you felt alienated from another person?
It is not a pleasant time; it can cause a person to second guess all that
they do and in some cases, they can drift into a melancholy state.
When you have strong feelings for the other person, it can upset you
entirely as you try to find ways to ‘bridge the gap’ in the relationship.
There may be times whenever we feel estranged from God.
We know that God is always in the same place, so if there is a gap
in our relationship, it is because we have moved away from Him.
Satan likes to take advantage of those times as an opportunity
to create all kinds of negative and hopeless thoughts in our minds.
Anyone who has ‘been there’ can relate to those feelings of angst.
The psalmist experienced it and didn’t try to figure out
how to mend the relationship, but went directly to the Lord.
He was aware of the Lord’s omnipotence
and His ability to restore what was lost.
We can almost feel the pain and suffering of the psalmist
as he pleaded with the Lord for relief.
Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am faint;
heal me, LORD, for my bones are in agony.
My soul is in deep anguish. How long, LORD, how long? (Psalm 6:2-3)
ACTION:
Maybe you have felt separated from a close relationship with the Lord.
If so, then learn from the psalmist and plead with
the One who can restore a lost fellowship with Him.
Does that mean we need to make changes?
Of course it does, but we need to also pour out our hearts to the Lord
and tell Him how much we are suffering from the loss of His closeness,
and how strong our desire is to have our relationship with Him restored.
At the same time, we need to realize that the wrong things we do
can create these feelings of alienation, and the lack of our efforts
to spend time with Him can weaken our closeness with Him.
We should arrange our days so that we can meet with Him
at the start of each day and the end of the every day.
We need to also stay in contact with Him throughout the day.
If we have a decision to make, ask the Lord to help us make the right one.
If we have issues with another person, ask Him to show us how to deal with it.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, you know my weaknesses and how to help me
overcome them. Forgive me for the times I have allowed them to
pull me away from You. My relationship with You is important
and I hurt whenever I lose my closeness with You. I pray that You
will be an integral part of my life and guide me in all that I do. I
cannot imagine a life without Your presence nearby. You help me
with overcoming sin and with all of the problems and issues that
invade my life. Thank You for Your forgiveness and for how You
comfort and console me in my time of need. You lift me up when
I am feeling down and You transform my gloominess into peace
and happiness. I am nothing without You and I cherish my
fellowship with You. Restore me I pray.”
