BIBLE PASSAGE:
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers,
against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world
and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
(Ephesians 6:12)
MEDITATION:
I think we can all agree that life has its struggles.
Even within our physical bodies,
doctors tell us a conflict for supremacy is going on.
The bacteria in our bloodstream wages a constant war against alien germs.
Our white blood cell count increases whenever infections threaten our bodies.
This increase is our body’s attempt to destroy infections
before they can cause us harm.
It is easy to see why the Psalmist praised the Lord for how He created us.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well. (Psalm 139:14)
Only an omnipotent God
could create people with such uniqueness and complexity.
We also have a battle raging in the spiritual realm.
The Bible says we are in a war with the ‘powers of a dark world’.
These powers of the dark world are under the control
of the ‘spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms’.
Heavenly realms is not referring to heaven itself,
but rather a spiritual dimension that we cannot see.
Apparently it is a place where good and evil are in a constant
battle and the results of that war impact us in significant ways.
Darkness hates light, but cannot rule over it.
When light is brought into a dark room, it wins every time.
Darkness disappears when light appears.
But darkness can never make light disappear.
We are born with a nature to sin (darkness) and only God’s light
can lead us to victory over these natural inclinations.
Light and darkness are at opposite ends of the spectrum
and it is evidence of the stark contrast between good and evil.
This war for control of our mind and will (and ultimately our entire being)
is not something to be taken lightly - our eternity depends on the outcome.
And it is not a war than we can win without divine help and guidance.
God wants us to be our best, to enjoy His best, and to seek the good
over the bad, so He is ready to help us when we call on Him.
God is not unaware of what is going on in the heavenly realms;
when good defeats sin in our lives, His blessings rain down on us.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed
us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
(Ephesians 1:3)
ACTION:
If you are having a struggle between good and evil
in a particular area of your life, ask the Lord to give you
the strength and guidance you need for good to win the battle.
Be humble and admit that you
are not strong enough to be victorious in your own strength.
Realize the battle for your mind is real,
that God wants you to enjoy His blessings,
and that He will equip you for defeating any sin trying to overtake you.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, I feel that I am in a constant battle with sin, but
I am thankful that I can call on You to help me defeat the evilness
that is striving to control me. Forgive me for the times I have failed
to humbly come to You and tried to arrogantly defeat sin in my own
strength. I want to enjoy more of Your blessings and I know I need
to have victory over sin in my life in order to receive them. Thank
You for Your promises for those who have chosen to follow Your
Son, Jesus!”

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
