DEVOTIONALS

ARE YOU SEARCHING FOR MORE SATISFACTION IN LIVING?

BIBLE PASSAGE:
The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a
sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be
like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.
(Isaiah 58:11)

MEDITATION:
If you saw an advertisement on TV that promised to
give you wisdom to make good decisions, increase your body strength,
and refresh you daily, would you be interested?
It sounds like a “too good to be true” commercial, doesn’t it?

But, what if they added, “Our system is tailored to your specific needs”,
would it increase your interest?
Chances are many would still be skeptical, right?
However, there are many in search of these things
who would probably ‘give it a try’.

The truth is, we have a Lord who has promised these things
to those who love and follow Him.
But, instead of “giving Him a try”, many people turn to other things
to try and quiet the longings of their souls.

The soul demands as much attention as the body.
It demands fellowship and communion with God;
it demands worship, quietness, and meditation.
Unless the soul is fed and exercised daily, it becomes weak and shriveled,
and it remains discontented, confused, restless.

Nothing but God ever completely satisfies, because the soul is made for God,
and without God it is restless and in secret torment.
The first step to God is a realization of your spiritual poverty.
The poor in spirit do not measure the worth of life in earthly possessions,
which fade away, but in terms of eternal realities, which endure forever.

ACTION:
Have you ‘given the Lord a try’,
or are you trying to fulfill the needs of your soul in other ways?
You might say, “I haven’t turn to addictions like alcohol and drugs”,
but perhaps you have become addicted to other things (job, perfectionism,
sports, gambling, staying on the go, sensual pleasures, etc.).
Some are even addicted to making appearances at church every time the
door opens, but their souls continue to starve because they are not
applying what they are taught in God’s Word when attending church.

Wise is the man who openly confesses his lack of spiritual wealth
and in humility of heart cries, “God, be merciful unto me, a sinner.”
The tax collector didn’t try to bargain with God or rationalize his sins.
Instead, he confessed his sinful condition and cried out to God.
But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up
to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
(Luke 18:13)

The Psalmist “tried God” in his distress.
Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am in distress;
my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and body with grief. (Psalm 31:9)

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promises. I know that only
through You will the longings of my soul be satisfied. Help me to
diligently seek a lasting joy through You and not by trying other
things. Thank You for being our Father who is concerned about,
and takes care of His children”.

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
