DEVOTIONALS

WE HAVE A REWARDING RESPONSIBILITY TO FUTURE GENERATIONS

BIBLE PASSAGE:
We will not hide them from their descendants;
we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy
deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done.
(Psalm 78:4)

MEDITATION:
At any time, we are just one generation away from being a pagan nation.
Consider what could happen to our country
if we stopped sharing the truth about Jesus with our children:
the next generation would exist with no biblical foundation.

This may sound extreme, but our recent history shows an unsettling tendency.
Years ago, our country was founded on scriptural principles.
It was common for people to take their children to church on a regular basis,
as opposed to dropping them off, or not taking them at all.

As time passed, our affluence, busyness and selfishness pushed the Lord aside.
Now, many children attend schools where God is not even mentioned
(unless His name is used in profanity).
Without the proper guidance, influence, and example of their parents,
where and how will our children learn about the Savior?

As we see in Psalm 78 (read all 72 verses),
we have been given divine instructions to teach the truth to our children.
We do this by modeling a godly life of worshipping the Lord, meeting with
other believers on a regular basis, and showing our faith is genuine.
Our obedience concerning the righteous training of children
will determine the future moral character of our nation.

All believers have an important role
to play in this—from the Sunday School teachers who instruct directly
in a classroom to the volunteers who drive children to youth groups.
However parents in particular have an enormous responsibility
to train their daughters and sons in righteousness.

ACTION:
There is no task quite as essential or fulfilling
as investing in the lives of the next generation.
The scriptures confirm the importance
of our influence and guidance of our children.
It is not something that should be taken lightly,
but rather instructions from the Lord to be taken seriously,
because we will be held responsible for our actions and inactions.

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, I pray that You will use me to have a positive
and lasting influence on my children and other children in this world.
I ask You to mold me into the type of person who allows others to see
that You are in fact, living in me. Thank You for all You have done
for me and for how You will help me to have a godly influence on
those I am responsible for. Thank You for those who had a godly
impact on my own life.”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
