BIBLE PASSAGE:
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.
It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain where our
forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become
a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.
(Hebrews 6:19-20)
MEDITATION:
Have you ever experienced that ‘cold chill’ of hopelessness? There
are sometimes when we can have a feeling that “my blood runs cold”.
It can be a time when you were almost in a panic because there
seemed to be no solution. Maybe you were a child in deep water
struggling to swim and you thought you were going to drown.
Or maybe it was when your child was making bad decisions and
you didn’t know what to do or say that would get through to them.
It could have been whenever you were sick or injured and thought
you might not recover.
Whatever the situation, most of us have been there at one time
or another. But the question is,
“What do we do when something seems hopeless?”
We might wish there was a ‘Book of Solutions’ that we could read,
but that would mean placing our hope in something man created.
There are some brilliant people with deep insights, but even the
brightest person does not have all the answers to life’s challenges.
Some people want other people to ‘fix things’, but many of us are
‘fix it’ people who want to resolve problems ourselves. However,
there are some things that we cannot find the answers to,
regardless of how hard we try.
And where do we place our hope for the future? Is it in the
government, educational system, some plan or organization?
The scriptures clearly explain where we should place our hope.
Our confidence should be in the Lord Jesus Christ, who sits at
the right hand of God.
We not only have a hope of eternal life, but we can also be
optimistic that whenever we have issues in this life, we can
rely on the Lord to help us cope with and survive the
problems. Right here and now, in this present life, we
have God’s presence to help us.
Suppose we had no Bible. Suppose there were no cross,
no salvation, and no empty tomb. Suppose we had nothing
to rely on except,
“Do your best, and try to patch it up, do what you can.”
But we do have a hope. God is interested in you and what
is going on in your life! There is a plan of redemption, a
plan for the future. The Bible is an exciting Book to read;
it is full of hope and expectancy.
ACTION:
Your confidence in the Lord’s presence and help, will increase
as you read His Word and communicate with Him frequently
through prayer. I have heard people make the statement,
“It seems like my prayers are getting
no higher than the ceiling of my house”.
Does that mean the Lord does not hear our prayers?
Of course not!
This is the confidence we have in approaching God:
that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears
us. (1 John 5:14)
There could be a couple of issues when we feel our prayers
are not being heard. First of all we may not be praying
‘according to His Will’. And secondly, we may have the
misconception that when we pray, we should expect to
feel something emotionally every time.
Prayer is a conversation with God where we express our
love and appreciation to Him for sending His Son to die
for our sins, and for giving us hope at all times, and in
all circumstances.
Prayer is also the venue for us to express our heartfelt
concerns and ask for the Lord’s help to sustain us when
it appears we have no hope.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for caring about me and
giving me a hope that man cannot fulfill. Whenever
something looks bleak and hopeless, I am thankful that
I can voice my concerns to You and You will comfort
and sustain me. Protect me from Satan’s lies as he tries
to convince me that You do not hear my prayers and that
I am in a hopeless situation. Thank You, Jesus, for willfully
dying on the cross so that I can have hope of an eternal life.
You suffered for me; help me to make sacrifices for You,
not as an obligation, but out of a heart of appreciation and
thankfulness.”
