BIBLE PASSAGE:
“I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive
for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.”
(Revelation 1:18)
MEDITATION:
For any historical event to be believable, there needs to be some
supportive evidence of it happening. There should be adequate
documentation of the event made from reliable witnesses. From
the things I have read, apparently there is more evidence that
Jesus rose from the dead, than there is that Alexander the Great
died at the age of 32.
Many historians will accept thousands of events that are supported
by only a few shreds of evidence. Yet, even with the overwhelming
evidence of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, many have intellectual
doubts.
Why would they not accept the resurrection of Christ as they would
any other historical event with supporting evidence? My guess is,
they don’t want to believe it.
Why would they believe other historical events with less evidence,
but choose not to believe the resurrection of Jesus ever happened?
It is probably because the other events of history don’t require them
to make any changes in their lives. If Jesus is ignored, then they
(like many others) can continue living a lifestyle they have chosen
for themselves that has no divine direction, hope, or purpose.
Reading about Jesus requires more than an intellectual approach.
We should read the scriptures with an open mind, and an open
heart that is willing to believe what we read.
You study the Scriptures diligently because you think
that in them you have eternal life. These are the very
Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come
to me to have life.
(John 5:39-40)
Believing in Jesus changes us, but it doesn’t restrict our joy,
it increases it.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;
I have come that they may have life, and have it
to the full.
(John 10:10)
Believing in Jesus gives us a new standard for success.
And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that
in all things at all times, having all that you need,
you will abound in every good work.
(2 Corinthians 9:8)
Believing in Jesus, ensures that we have a new life
to look forward to at the end of our time on earth.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one
and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall
not perish but have eternal life.
(John 3:16)
Believing in Jesus resulted in a dramatic change in the life
of Paul, who was previously a persecutor of God’s people.
He knew the benefits of ‘connecting’ with Christ, and was
confident of a better existence when committing his life to
the One who loves him, and gave His life for him.
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live,
but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body,
I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and
gave himself for me.
(Galatians 2:20)
Sadly, there are many who still refuse to believe in the existence
of Jesus, His sacrifice for their sins, and His resurrection. That
means they are missing out on living a new life filled with hope,
joy, and a purpose. And even worse, they don’t have the promise
of eternal life at the end of their earthly journey.
ACTION:
When reading the Bible, we need to allow His Word to speak
directly to our heart. Rather than trying to see how much we
can read in one session, we need to spend more time digesting
(meditating) the scriptures we have read.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me evidence of the
resurrection of Your Son, Jesus. I am grateful and accept
His resurrection as not only fact, but as an event that changes
my life for the better! Teach me to read Your Word with an
open heart that allows You to speak directly to me. Help me
to not only meditate on the scriptures, but to apply them to
my own life so that I will benefit from what I read. Lord
Jesus, I know You are alive and live in the hearts of all
who love You!”
