BIBLE PASSAGE:
“Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one
who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll.”
(Revelation 22:7)
MEDITATION:
Another word for ‘keep’ is ‘possess’.
When the scriptures say, ‘keep’ the words of the Bible,
it means we should ‘possess’, or ‘own’ them.
In other words, if we read the Bible, but fail to meditate
on what we have read, then we have merely read an interesting book.
As we meditate,
it should create in us a desire to make some adjustments in our lives.
I believe that is why in the year 2013, God ‘tagged’ me
with creating and distributing devotionals.
It seems to me that His intent, is to help us (including me),
develop a better understanding of how to meditate on His Word
(of course I have the benefit of viewing them
before I distribute them and post them to my blog).
James tells us that when we read God’s Word correctly,
and apply what we read to our own lives, we will be blessed!
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it
says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like
someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself,
goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks
intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not
forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what
they do. (James 1:22-25)
The amount we read is not as important as our meditation
on the meaning of the scriptures, and how they apply to our own lives.
God did not provide us with His Word as just another book to read.
He gave us the scriptures to read for our benefit.
Does it mean that it will require us to make some changes in our lives?
Of course it does,
but the changes we make will be beneficial to us (and probably others).
God wouldn’t give us instructions
to make our lives more complicated, would He?
He loves and cares about us much more than we could ever imagine.
ACTION:
Have you set aside time each day for reading the Bible?
If so, have you been focusing on how many scriptures you can read in each
session, or do you devote time for meditating on what you have read?
Do you think about how you can ‘keep’ the words you read?
Never forget that you will be blessed, when you ‘own’ the things you read!
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word and the valuable information
contained within the pages of the Bible. Teach me how to read Your Book
as you intend for me to read it, and help me to make the changes I need
to make in order to apply Your instructions to my own life.”
About Don Woodruff
Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
