SCRIPTURAL PASSAGE:
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said,
“Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
(John 1:29)
MEDITATION:
At the cross of Christ, sin reached its climax.
Sin’s most terrible display took place at Calvary.
It was never blacker or more hideous.
We saw the core of the human heart and sin’s corruption fully exposed.
Some people have said that man has improved since that day;
that if Christ came back today, He would not be crucified,
but would be given a glorious reception.
However, Christ does come to us every day
in the form of Bibles (that we do not read),
in the form of churches (that we do not attend),
and in the prayers (that we do not pray).
There was a time when families looked forward to church every Sunday,
but based on the decline of attendance we see today, if Christ came back,
odds are high that He would be treated insignificantly, if not worse.
Sin never improves the human heart,
so the hunger and thirst for the Lord is diminishing throughout the world.
When we look at the passion of other misguided religions,
they seem to be more dedicated about the wrong things
than many Christians are about their own dedication to the Lord.
What has happened to the passion of Christians in the world today?
When sin is winning the battle for our hearts and souls, our Savior loses out.
ACTION:
Has the passion you once had for the Lord diminished in your life?
Has your desire to be with other believers in community worship lessened?
Do you find yourself justifying your abandonment
of the things the Lord expects of those who love Him?
How are you treating Christ’s presence in the world, and in your life?
Are you part of the 83% (according to the statistics from several years ago)
of professing Christians who have abandoned church partially or totally,
and ignored God’s command to ‘meet together’?
“...NOT giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing...”
(Hebrews 10:25)
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, restore my passion, dedication and commitment to
You, and Your Son, Jesus. Take away the thoughts and actions (or lack
of actions) that cause me to continue crucifying Jesus. Help me to have
victory over the sin that is corrupting my heart and soul. Remind me that
Jesus is the ‘Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world’. Replace
my attention to the things of this world and my uninspired attitude toward
Jesus, with the passion I had when You blessed me with Your salvation.”
About Don Woodruff
Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
