SCRIPTURE:
That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe
in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
(Romans 10:9)
MEDITATION:
It is impossible to believe anything into existence.
The Gospel did not come into being because men believed it.
The tomb was not emptied of Christ’s body that first Easter
because some faithful people believed it.
The facts preceded the faith.
We are psychologically incapable of believing without an object of our faith.
The object of Christian faith is, Jesus Christ.
Faith means more than an intellectual acceptance of the claims of Christ.
We are not asked to believe something that is not credible.
We are asked to believe in the facts that have transcended all history.
Faith actually means surrender and commitment to the claims of Christ.
Surrender and commitment are the confirmations of our faith.
We do not know Christ through the five physical senses, but we know Him
through the sixth sense that God has given every man—the ability to believe.
ACTION:
What have you failed to surrender and commit to the Lord?
If there is anything in your life that you are justifying,
it could be an area that is still uncommitted.
Rather than creating a rationale for defending your actions
with other people, think about how the Lord would respond to your excuses.
For instance, we are told in God’s Word to,
“not give up meeting together,
as some are in the habit of doing” (Hebrews 10:25).
If you are one of the “some”,
what reasons could you possibly give to the Lord for ignoring His command?
Of course sickness can sometimes get in the way, but outside of that, would
your reasons convince the Lord that it is okay for you to be disobedient?
If you disobey this command, then how will you inspire a lost person
to join with other believers to hear God’s Word and His plan of salvation?
Your disobedience could be the stumbling block for a lost person’s salvation.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me the ability to believe. I pray
that my faith and belief is shown through my surrender and commitment.
Forgive me for making any excuses and convincing myself that it is okay
to disobey some of Your commands. I know that when I choose to ignore
any of Your commands, I cannot be an effective witness for You. Create
in me a resolve to fully commit and surrender to You, so that I will know
You better and can be used by You.”
About Don Woodruff
Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
