SCRIPTURE:
Look on my suffering and deliver me, for I have not forgotten your law.
(Psalms 119:153)
MEDITATION:
How any times during a week do you think you have forgotten something?
Maybe it’s your car keys, or where you left your glasses, or an appointment.
Some of the things we forget are insignificant,
but some of them can be very important.
The Psalmist had his priorities in order,
and at the top of his list of things to remember, was God’s laws.
Why were these so important to him?
Because they provided him with guidelines for living.
They defined the borders of God’s path for him.
During times of difficulty, they gave him hope of deliverance.
Many are the foes who persecute me, but I have not turned from your statutes.
(Psalms 119:157)
Of great importance, they reminded the Psalmist of the love of God.
See how I love your precepts;
preserve my life, LORD, in accordance with your love. (Psalms 119:159)
The laws of our land are fluid and we never know from one day to the next
which ones will be changed.
However, we can have full confidence that God’s laws never change.
All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal. (Psalms 119:160)
They provided many benefits for the Psalmist
and they provide those same benefits for us.
God had compassion for the Psalmist and He has compassion for us as well.
Your compassion, LORD, is great; preserve my life according to your laws.
(Psalms 119:156)
ACTION:
In order to enjoy the benefits (now and eternally) of God’s laws,
you have the responsibility of obeying them.
His laws are not an ‘a la carte’ menu
where you can pick and choose which ones you will obey.
Obedience involves much more
than just obeying the laws of God that are easy for you.
You have to obey the ones that challenge you,
as well as the ones you can obey with little effort.
In order for God to mold you into the person He wants you to be,
you have to stay within the boundaries of His laws.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for Your laws and how they benefit me.
Help me to commit myself to obeying Your laws so that I can better
understand what You want of me. I know that I will be blessed by Your
love whenever I leave my comfort zone in order to obey all of Your
commands.”
