BIBLE PASSAGE:
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as
the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
(John 14:27)
MEDITATION:
Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers:
for they shall be called the children of God.” (Matthew 5:9)
Where does peacemaking begin?
How can we become peacemakers?
Can we discover peace within ourselves?
Freud has told us that peace is just a mental attitude.
Psychiatrists think that if we cast away our phobias and shed our neuroses,
then magically we will find the peace we long for.
Unquestionably psychiatry has helped many, but it is certainly not
a satisfactory substitute for the peace which can only come from God.
If psychiatry leaves God out,
then ultimately we will see psychiatrists going to each other for treatment.
There can be no peace for man until he has found peace with God.
The LORD gives strength to his people;
the LORD blesses his people with peace. (Psalm 29:11)
I will listen to what God the LORD says; he promises peace to his people,
his faithful servants - but let them not turn to folly. (Psalm 85:8)
The Bible says, “He is our peace”.
Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times
and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. (2 Thessalonians 3:16)
ACTION:
How is peace intertwined into your life?
God’s peace helps in calming your anxieties.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and
petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace
of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and
your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7)
You are called to make a home for peace and to be at peace with others.
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body
you were called to peace. And be thankful. (Colossians 3:15)
Make every effort to live in peace with everyone
and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. (Hebrews 12:14)
Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. (James 3:18)
If it is possible, as far as it depends on you,
live at peace with everyone. (Romans 12:18)
Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace
and to mutual edification. (Romans 14:19)
Consider the blameless, observe the upright;
a future awaits those who seek peace. (Psalm 37:37)
As the time nears for us to celebrate and praise the Prince of Peace,
why not make a personal resolve to become an agent of peace which
is one way of pointing others to the Lord?
If you are looking for ways to serve the Lord
(and you should be if you are following Him), this is a good place to start.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise of peace for those who love
You and seek to do Your will. Thank You for the times You have given me
peace and allayed my fears and anxieties. Help me to seek peace and to
allow Your peace to flow through me. Forgive me for the times my words
and actions have created turmoil for others, instead of bringing them
peace. Teach me how to be the kind of peacemaker You want me to be.”
About Don Woodruff
Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
