SCRIPTURE:
If I go up to the heavens, You are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, You are there.
(Psalm 139:8)
MEDITATION:
How do you feel about others hovering over you all the time?
In other words, do you have moments where you just want some alone time?
When you are constantly under the watchful eye of someone, it can cause
some to become uncomfortable and feel as if they are constantly being judged.
It is not that a person wants to do something that another one will not like,
they may just do things at a different pace, and the presence of someone
who chooses to do things differently, prevents them from relaxing
and doing things at their own leisurely (or faster) pace.
For some, it can remind them
of unpleasant experiences they had when they were a child.
They may feel that the other person
is attempting to “mother” or “father” them.
As a result, they feel pressured to do things
in a manner that will please the other person,
and miss out on the enjoyment of doing things their own way.
Some people would like for God to leave them alone at times, especially
whenever they have a desire to do something they know will displease Him.
The Psalmist however, was a realist; he knew that God is always present.
This can be a comforting knowledge to some,
but make others have times of being uncomfortable.
The reality is, we are always under the watchful eye of God.
The Bible tells us a lot about God to help us get to know Him better.
We are told that He is a Spirit who is not limited to the confines of a body.
He is not limited to shape, the forces of nature, or any boundaries or bonds.
God is absolutely immeasurable and that should bring comfort to all believers.
There are many who want to place limitations on God,
but that’s not going to happen.
There is no limit to God, or His wisdom, or His power,
or His love, or His mercy, or anything else.
People change, fashions change, conditions and circumstances change,
but God never changes!
ACTION:
Think about the omnipresence of God for a moment.
Does it make you feel uncomfortable,
or does the thought of His presence give you peace and encouragement?
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, I am thankful that You are always present and never
changing. Knowing that You are there, causes me to feel disappointment
when I disobey You. If there were gaps in Your presence, then whenever
I fail You, I might get the idea that You weren’t watching at the time
and maybe I got away with doing something wrong. It might also cause me
to plan on sinful activity whenever You are not watching. Like the Palmist,
I acknowledge and appreciate knowing that no matter where I go, or what
I do, You are always there. This gives me a feeling of comfort, peace and
encouragement. Thank You Father, for always being with me, and for me!”
About Don Woodruff
Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
