DEVOTIONALS

WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? WHO DOES GOD KNOW YOU ARE?

SCRIPTURE:
“..for He knows how we are formed, He remembers that we are dust.”
(Psalm 103:14)

MEDITATION:
Try answering this question, “Who are you?”
To make it more challenging,
you need to provide twenty answers to the question.
When you have finished, ask yourself if you have answered honestly.
Do you really know who you are?

Some scientists claim that in our desperate search of who we are,
we look for heroes and imitate others.
We paste bits and pieces of other people into ourselves.

We give speeches like people we have enjoyed listening to.
We laugh in the same manner as others who have a charming laugh to us.
We play sports like certain athletes.
All in all, we copy others in many of the things we do and say.

Of course we learn through imitating others,
but we can run the risk of having difficulty identifying ourselves.
Some go through life in a continual search for themselves and their identity.

Think about this: there are three of you.
There is the person you think you are.
There is the person others think you are.
There is the person God knows you are, and can be through Christ.

God’s Word gives us specific instructions to be like Christ.
We are told to have the type of understanding that helps us know the Lord.
This is what the LORD says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the
strong boast of their strength, or the rich boast of their riches, but let
the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to
know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and
righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the LORD.
(Jeremiah 9:23-24)

Paul understood that if he was going to mimic anyone, it should be Christ.
For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. (Philippians 1:21)

He knew that while he lived, he needed to live as Christ.
In order to live as Him, he needed to get to know Him.
Once that had been accomplished,
Paul could mimic the characteristics of Jesus.
He could start developing the same type of love,
the same type of concern for others, and the same attitudes as Jesus.

ACTION:
The question again is, “Who are you?”
Are you made of bits and pieces from others,
or can you say with assurance that you are a reflection of Christ?

Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for forming me as a unique individual. Guide
me in my efforts to identify with Your Son, Jesus. Help me to know myself
as You know me.”

About Don Woodruff

Retired from FedEx and dedicated to sharing God's Word with others. I send out devotionals weekly and have written two books: "The Crucifixion Catalyst / Unspoken Messages From God To Believers" (published and available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble **out of print**) and "I'm Saved Now What?" (unpublished). I am currently working on a third one that will be a Daily Devotional. The devotionals on my Blog have been viewed by people in all 50 states and over 80 foreign countries. I sincerely believe the Lord provides the content for the devotionals and in 2013 He “tasked” me with distributing them and storing them on my Blog. They are free and I will not solicit any donations. I hope you enjoy them and feel free to leave comments if one of them speaks to you personally, or if you have a suggestion.
