BIBLE PASSAGE:
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor
demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither
height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to
separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Romans 8:38-39)
MEDITATION:
When pain and adversity enter our lives, it is easy to rationalize
and conclude that God has abandoned us.
We think, “If He were there, He would have done something by now”.
However, today’s passage says that nothing can separate us from
Christ’s love. That confirms that He has not abandoned us.
No events; no circumstances; no trials or tribulations;
not a single distress can remove us from His divine love.
We are assured we can victorious through Him who loves us.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine
or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:
“For your sake we face death all day long; we are
considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all
these things we are more than conquerors through
him who loved us.
(Romans 8:35-37)
From scripture we also learn that our present sufferings cannot be
compared to the coming glory. There is a glory for all believers that
is unseen at the moment, but will be revealed at the return of Jesus
Christ.
If we were to try to assess the impact of our present sufferings versus
the glory of His return, there is no comparison.
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth
comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.
(Romans 8:18)
Although it may not be easy, in the midst of our trials, we need to
focus on His coming glory instead of being consumed with what
appears to be the hopelessness of our situation. Scriptures remind
us that God’s good purpose is our transformation into Christ’s image.
For those God foreknew he also predestined to be
conformed to the image of his Son, that he might
be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
(Romans 8:29)
When we understand His purpose, we develop a victorious eternal
perspective, which produces hope and perseverance in us.
For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is
seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they
already have? But if we hope for what we do not
yet have, we wait for it patiently.
(Romans 8:24-25)
Nothing we have gone through in the past, or that we are dealing
with at the present, or that we will encounter in the future can
take us away from Christ. He is with us every step of the way.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life,
neither angels nor demons, neither the present
nor the future, nor any powers,
(Romans 8:38)
The unseen powers of evil that try to deceive and entrap us, are
no match for the Lord. He holds us securely in His omnipotent
grasp. Only our God is self-existent, and if He calls us His own,
nothing and no one—not even we—can break that relationship.
neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all
creation, will be able to separate us from the love
of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Romans 8:39)
This promise of security in Christ isn’t a ‘license to sin without
consequence’. Instead, it should motivate us to fall on our knees
in gratitude and praise. As we understand the greatness of this gift,
our love for Christ will increase and result in our obedience and
perseverance, no matter what difficulty we face.
ACTION:
Have you been deceived into believing that God has abandoned you?
The evil one wants to take any and every circumstance and use them
to make you feel separated from the Lord. Rather than sinking into
a state of depression, focus on the scriptures above. Turn your back
to the evil one, and face the Lord who is with you.
Pray,
“Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise that nothing
can separate You from me. Whenever I am having a difficult
time, remind me of the promises in Your Word. Help me to
realize it when Satan starts trying to convince me that You
have deserted me. During those times, teach me to humbly
come to You in prayer and thank You for Your promises that
Satan cannot destroy. When others are going through difficult
times, teach me how to encourage them by showing them in
Your Word that nothing can separate them from Your love.”
